Morning all and it's warm already here. Well just finished 9 weeks and have lost 10lbs:T it was a fast day yesterday though so I will do my usual, up down up then down, then finally 1lb off. That's the way it is for me. can't say enough that this is doable, I have never stuck to a diet for this long, I went to the pub on Tuesday for a meal as well! This is just a way of living rather than dieting, isn't it :)

Just realised, I have been up an hour and getting my second cuppa and still no thoughts on my breakfast yet, after fast day I never seem rush to the kitchen:rotfl:

Just starting 5:2 today, have been unable to get in the "zone" for concentrating on weightloss via other methods but feeling quite excited about this. Have put on a stone over the rather prolonged winter and things just don't fit :o Also trying to concieve so hoping it will help with that too.

Weighed in at 12st 6lb this morning. Today is my first fast day and monday will be the next.

Would love any tips/recipes. Is there a recipe thread for this?

Today's lunch I am quite excited about as have some of the slim pasta. Will chop up 100g mushrooms, and one leek and simmer in some veg stock until the stock has reduced to hardly there, then stir in 90g of Aldi lighter soft cheese garlic and herbs. So the sauce should be around 150 calories.
Praying that mixed into the slimpasta it will make a nice meal, especially with lots of black pepper. Hoping for carbonara effect. :)

Hi there and good you have started but I am sure I read a bit about pregnancies and not to do the 5.2! Or maybe ok whilst trying, so make sure you read the link on first page. I was like you and needed to shed the extra I put on over the winter plus a bit more! There is a lot of good advice here so good luck.

if there is a thread with recipes for people dieting/wanting to loose fat then please link it, otherwise can some one start it!

im struggling to find things to eat that I like the taste of (referring to main meals here)... my grilled chicken tastes like rubber. to make it taste better I add things but then its no longer healthy.

I have looked on line and most recipes are not what I want to eat, I also keep my 500 for one big meal in the evening. Last night I had poached egg on toast loads of mushrooms, large grilled tomatoes and a dollop of ketchup, fruit and yogurt afterwards and still enough for a biscuit with my coffee about 9pm. I think I would rather eat what I want but find a leaner way of doing it. hth.

First day is the worst, will take couple of weeks for you to look forward to a fast day!

Read this thread, very very helpful and also by chance found these menu plans from woman magazine this am.

I tend to try to last out till dinner, drinking water/tea, odd carrot stick and try to eat balance of cals in one meal, but everyone is different and as long as you only have 500 cals or less, your on track.

I found the myfitnesspal app an invaluable source for logging calories.

There are some wonderful stories on this thread, and some great posters who will jolly you along when your willpower may begin to fade.
Very best of luck for today:j

You must, *obviously* be lying and have stuffed yourself with a big mac and a full family bucket when you went sleepshopping!:D

Maybe it's the opportunity to try new things?

I've developped a taste for spicy beetroot soup..., my Oh loves it too and he's not on the diet (I mix in 3/4 fresh beetroots, 1 onion, a cougette or some pumpkin/squash, a chilli and a mushroom stock cube... simmer and blend serve with a small spoon of low fat philadelphia and ryvita).

In winter, I ate quite a bit of sweet potatoe and pumpkin soup, or spicy lentil soup. Now I've move more towards salads.

My most common option is a huuuuge veg stir-fry with onion, garlic, peppers, courgette, broccoli, pack choi, asparagus, green beans, runner beans, mushroom, bean sprouts... (well whatever is in the fridge) with a splash of soy sauce. The rest of my family enjoys this as a side dish.
Another favourite is the classic arabiata sauce (tomotoes based with courgette, peppers, onion and again, whatever lurks in teh fridge), either by itself or with slim noodles.
I've found some interesting squash in the shops and made a heavenly kabocha squash curry as well...: http://pinchofyum.com/kabocha-squash-lentil-curry

Doing okish so far, though had lunch slightly earlier than usual ;)

Here is my slim pasta with creamy mushroom and leek sauce:

The pasta is definitely chewier than normal pasta but I can live with that - better than being starving! The whole dish was around 230 calories :-)

This morning I had an apple, a pear and options hot choc. So only 150 cals left!

Very funny, have just checked the bin and no goody wrappers in there! I love squash and sweet potatoes and often make soups with them, yum. I will try anything new and I have started to cook a lot differently than before. But what I am trying to say is there are ways of eating your normal foods if you think of ways you can cut back in calories. Instead of sauces on meat, use spices, if you see salads as boring, make warm salad, with cooked mushrooms peppers and onions, that type of thing.
