If you read my post again you will see that I was referring to 5:2ing purely in the weight loss context. To a lot of people, the relatively easy weight loss is the attraction of this method.
Even if you only normally eat pies, you still stand to lose weight by eating fewer pies on your fast days.0 -

(not having a go, just wondering)
1) fast for 4 days every so often
2) fast every other day
3) Fast for two days out of seven
I'm doing no 3 - I thought at first it had to be two consecutive days but I think I got that bit wrong..

I think you're missing the point, it isn't actually a weight loss plan.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

I'm not missing the point at all. I know it's not meant to be a weight loss plan but an awful lot of people seem to have seized on the "I stuck to this diet for 5 weeks, during which time I lost nearly a stone" bit of the programme and are seeing the 5:2 diet solely as a relatively painless way to lose weight.
Which it is.0 -

But they're not sticking to a diet the same as he did, they're making it up as they go along :rotfl:
Unfortunately, I can see there being lots of very disappointed people in 5 weeks time, not to mention some quite ill ones“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
I started this a week ago after watching, and have lost 3lb this week. Happy with it so far!0

I am flicking through amazon now looking for so e reading material on which to work out what is safe and right and useful for me. There is a lot out there.
Do you have any recommendations, it seems you are well versed in the literature about this?0 -

How do you know? As man himself said...There are no firm rules because so far there have been few proper human trials. I found that I could get through my fast days best if I had a light breakfast (scrambled eggs, thin slice of ham, lots of black tea, adding up to about 300 calories), lots of water and herbal tea during the day, then a light dinner (grilled fish with lots of vegetables) at night.0 -

You, and others, might find this interview enlightening

Surely, if you are eating a number of pies you will mainly cease to put on weight at the same rate?0
