Gloomendoom wrote: »Precisely. I thought the whole point of this 5;2 thing, when used for weight loss, was that there was no need for a food plan. You just eat less of what you normally eat on the "fast" days and what you normally eat on the "normal" days. At the end of the week, you will have consumed less calories than usual and, because the intermittent nature of the fasting, your body does not go into starvation mode, so you will lose weight.
Generally, skinny people live longer. How many fat 90 year olds do you see?
Well, my rotund great grandmother made it to 104 with a night mare fiet, but i don't think i got her great genes!
For me i really SHOULD pay attention to what i eat, i just do not want to do it to the minutiae of the daily low calorie eaters whose name i cannot recall. The idea of knowing i can 'juddd' or something like it would be good, but i need to make it effective and healthy for me.0 -
I was very motivated to try this after watching the TV programme.
I started on Monday and only had my 500 calories at my evening meal that night. I can't really say I felt hungry either. Through the day I had decaff tea and some water. Normally I love diet coke and tea with milk.
When I woke up on Tuesday morning, I felt awful. I had a headache, felt really, really tired and sluggish and just wanted to close my eyes. I came home from work and had some lunch, went back to work, and had my evenng meal as usual. It was only after that, that I started to feel good again.
Today I've been fasting again and again I've only had decaff tea and water (about to have my allowance soon) and again have a headache. I wonder what I'll feel like in the morning?
But I feel fine otherwise and can't say I'm longing for chocolate or food.
Good luck to everyone.

The headaches could be from the lack of food in which case your body just needs to adjust or it could be that you're not drinking enough, really important to keep your fluids up on a fast day."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0 -
8th day and 4th fast day for me and feeling very drowsy. Barely any energy after a long day of work...really looking forward to breakfast in the morning, might go to bed really early so it comes around quicker.0

I thought the idea was to fast 1 or 2 times a week, how come you are on your 4th fast day already?
(not having a go, just wondering)0 -
Chameleon, what fasting programmes do you refer to with managed eating plans, Is this like ..diet clubs? Or studies?0

I think people who are eating low calories but throughout the day are completely missing the point of this. Doing what I am doing gives six 18 hour periods a week were I am having zero calories.
No I don't think so. I heard Michael Mosely on the Monday morningRadio 4 interview on ' Today ' before the Horizon programme was broadcast and he'd had a scrambled egg plus a little ham for breakfast and was going to have lunch, salad I think, and fish with loads of veg in the evening.CCs @0% £24k Dec 05 £19,621.41 Au £13400 S 12600 Oct £11,981 £9481 £7500 Nov £7250 D £7100 Jan 6950 F £5800 Mar£5400 May £4830 June £4660 July £4460 Aug £3200, S £900, £0 18/9/07 DFW Nerd 0420 -

Fair enough, i would just have been interested if there were a business operating on sensible home prepared food eather thanrocessed food, and a plan like this.0 -

Interesting and backs up the Horizon programme.
I think the Washington institution mentioned in your quote was one of those quoted in the programme.CCs @0% £24k Dec 05 £19,621.41 Au £13400 S 12600 Oct £11,981 £9481 £7500 Nov £7250 D £7100 Jan 6950 F £5800 Mar£5400 May £4830 June £4660 July £4460 Aug £3200, S £900, £0 18/9/07 DFW Nerd 0420 -
Well this is my 4th "fasting" day over the last 2 weeks. On each day I have breakfast of an egg or some fruit, loads of salad leaves plus veg and fruit and some protein for lunch and dinner. I am keen on having fish with veg in the evening as it doesn't seem too out of our ordinary way of eating. Have 2 cod fillets (each 80 cals)on veg in the oven now. Will also microwave some spinach and probably have 7 or 8 strawberries after (28 ish cals if I remember). Am looking forward to a 'normal' day tomorrow though! But this really feels do-able to me. I'm hoping my next blood glucose tolerance test will show lower levels and that my blood pressure will be lower.. And that I'll have lost some weight.
