I'm on Ramadan at the moment, it's not too big a deal (currently around 3am to 9pm) the thing that is the hardest is the lack of fluids, I can manage fine with not eating, especially when I'm at work and kept busy2p off is still 2p off!0

Oh i do hope you get put to enjoy it a bit.0 -
Which is actually no big deal - more of an inconvenience (unless you are above the Arctic Circle as pointed out
).
Though it is probably tricky for those with heavy, physical jobs.fatboyonadiet wrote: »I'm on Ramadan at the moment, it's not too big a deal (currently around 3am to 9pm) the thing that is the hardest is the lack of fluids, I can manage fine with not eating, especially when I'm at work and kept busy
It's not much fun in the tropics either. We used to have to work shortened days in school during Ramadan because the kids weren't fit to do anything by the afternoon.0 -
After many years of yoyo dieting, I thought I had found the diet (lifestyle) that seemed to work for me about 2.1/2 years ago. Just simple low fat, high fibre calorie controlled eating, with resistance training 2/3 times a week.
I managed to loose 3 3/4 stone from the middle of January to the end of June (2010), but found that I grew bored, stopped exercising and slowly put 3 1/2 stone back on.
Having watched the Horizon programme recently, and after researching more online, I find myself excited about this lifestyle, and plan to start my first fast today after dinner.
I really feel that this is something that I can continue on and on!
I have read an ebook (eat stop eat) that suggests quite strongly that the fast should be 24 hours (give or take a couple of hours) and nothing but zero calorie drinks should be consumed during the fast.
I do like the idea of having up to 600 calories (as per Horizon) on the fast day, but not sure - I guess I will play it by ear, and see what happens - what does everyone else think?
Wish me luck on my first fast day, and I'll keep you posted.

it seems like there are quite a few plans out there that use IF, some use alternate days for fasting, some have very low cals on fasting days others none. I would say as you have a lot to lose why not start on 500/600 kcals on fasting days and then if you stall at all then try the absolute fasting.
Personally I'm not sure I could put myself through the pain of a 24hr fast 2 or 3 days a week.
Some people say you should eat the calories in one meal so you get 2 mini fasts but others so it makes no difference if you spread them throughout the day. See what works for you and mix it up a bit if you feel the need.
Good luck!"You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0 -

My granddad told me that, in his opinion, the key to healthy life is 'everything in moderation'.
He, like me, would eat practically anything.
Would tend to agree to be moderate about most of what you eat.
However the liver is the processing plant of toxins and dioxins, so I wouldn't personally eat liver more than once a month and farmed salmon swim around in their own $%it in confined spaces and have plenty of dioxins in them, so ditto for salmon consumption!
All foods are toxic to some extent, even vegetables! I believe that is another reason the fasting in Horizon is meant to reduce food consumption in general to help our bodies process and recuperate from damage caused by it and to help our immune systems by not overloading our digestive system which takes loads of energy and time to do its job properly.0 -

I have been spending a little time googling this. I am also going to get the book about the johnson up day down day diet (something i remember being interested in a while ago).
The horizon programme it seems is not watchable on ipad, nor the clips from in on the horizon home page. What i did notice was a small warning about high protein diets and intermittant fasting. Referredto below
http://thebigcsurvivor.blogspot.co.uk/2012/08/eat-fast-and-live-longer.html
Why is this, does anyone know?
Also i ran a calorie count of what i ate yesterday and while it was well under recomended calories (the thing i find easiest to count) i do notice that it was over the sugar intake i should be aiming for, which is a shame.
I have been told recently i have to increase potassium and so this week have been eating banans thinking put clorie content but NOT about sugars.0 -
