Sorry i'm not willing to have what I eat picked over. I've already stated due to gastro issues I cannot make major changes or start eating new foods, you'll have to take my word for it.
If anyone would like to give me an idea of what the right foods are, i'd be grateful. As I said I can't tolerate nuts or any kind of brown/wholemeal bread.
I can (and do) however eat lots of fruit and veg, yesterday I had tomato, lettuce, grapes, strawberries, blackberries (off my plant so organic!) and raw carrots. Typically I will have peas, sweetcorn or green beans with my evening meal- yesterday evening it was raw carrot with rice.
I'm fasting from 10pm to 2pm next day. I could change it so I can eat sooner the next day, but late night snacking is one of my biggest problems so I don't want to have an excuse to start again!
It would be easier though, for people to advise what foods you could introduce, if they already know what you typically eat. Otherwise, we could just end up suggesting a lot of foods that you already eat.
Are you open to telling us what the gastro issue is exactly? That way we'd know exactly what other foods should be avoided too (no one wants to suggest something which could potentially lead to a flare up). There might be other foods, other than nuts and wholemeal bread, which would affect it.February wins: Theatre tickets0 -

Oh dear, what a question. It's not IBS because I pass blood and need to get up during the night. And it's not IBD because no solid evidence has been found in 6 years. I've had every test known to man and then some. Going to london to test for a rare genetic disease in 2 weeks. A course of steroids failed miserably so it's back to my Consultant trying to think of what rare diseases I can be tested for.
I have an inflammatory disease of unknown origin and one of the things it affects is my guts. I do have trigger foods, and I also have flare-ups with no warning when I have done everything right.
Foods I can't have include nuts, wholemeal, pears, pineapple, alot of grainy items such as wholemeal crackers. Heavy duty crisps such as kettle chips and mashed potato (although I am working on that one, think a smaller quantity would work but I haven't the courage to try again yet!). Potato in any other form is fine.
Looking at that list it seems cealic disease would be a likely culprit, but I tested negative on blood and tissue biopsy.
I mentioned the crisps as an example but I have stopped eating crisps in general.
I hope that explains a little why I won't try new foods and stick to things that I know are safe. I won't even use another brand of a safe food, has to be Kingsmill bread for example, and not Tesco. Hence the dilemma of being unable to improve much upon the food I eat already.
I was already overweight and the steroids (despite my best efforts) just made things worse. I also have high cortisol levels, as a physical stress repsonse to the inflammatory disease- gland checked and functioning correctly. So I am hoping a few more days and my body will be used to the 8/16 fasting because something needs to be done about my weight, and I cannot follow the usual routes ie eat super healthily and go down the gym.
Before I got sick I was doing 20x up and down a decent sized competiton pool weekly, no one is more dismayed by my inability to exercise than me, it takes all my energy just to get up and dressed, I don't have enough left to open a tin of beans even!0 -
I'm afraid with all your health problems it would be neither possible nor appropriate to suggest an eating plan for you. Yes, there probably are things you can do to improve your diet and certain foods are anti-inflammatory and highly beneficial for somebody displaying IBS symptoms but I don't feel comfortable making any recommendations online given your history. I also don't think it's advisable you continue with this fasting regime as you could be doing more harm than good. Just my opinion“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0

Well, i am giving this a go. I have other health issues and they are exascerbated by excess weight. I hve done everything the dietician and nutritionist i have seen has said to do (i am not ignorant about food but did value the input of people whose life work it was. I am the only person i know who actually put weight on while doing Atkins. , and i lose weight slower than most people on any plan because of those issues. But slower does not mean impossible, i just have to be more patient. I do feel utterly desperate now though about my weight, not only is it depressing personally and for vanity sake, it is impacring negatively on my fragile health.
I think the harder days for me are going to be the non fast days eating reglularly, because my natural tendancy that i have to fight normally is eating small meals through the day.
I still have been unable to watch the programme though, which is extremely frustrating.
Fwiw, we never eat low fat spreads etc ( we do not eat much we would need rhem for, not being regular bread eaters etc) and when we do more often than not i find i either do not need any thing to spread because of the topping, or can use butter, mayonnaise or olive oil. I do however prefer skimmed milk. I think its because its what we always had when i was you g, so the taste is right for me, I also detest skin on a hot drink, even the very fibe film with creamy milk. This is doubly odd as we have access to full fat, unpasteruirsed unhomogenised milk straight from the cow, something many would give their right arm for.
I have today registered with my fitness pal, and am fasting. Bearing in mind i am physically weak (i have been almost entirely bed ridden for the last week and. Half, only getti g up properly since the weekend) i feel up for 'moving' but don't know how much might be too much so don't want to go out for a walk and get stranded, lol. I am too weak to do most opf my exercise dvds though.0 -
Thanks very much, I have been wondering whether it would do me more harm than good, but at the moment have decided the weight issue is more pressing. Something has to be done and after alot of thought this is the only workable solution I have come up with. If I do feel at any time it's harmful I will stop, which is why in a few days if there is no improvement I am going to think about shortening the fasting time.
There have been times over the past 6 years when I have had to choose eating bad food (junk) because it was the only food that would stay in. Likewise now I have chosen that the weight needs to come off as the more important thing.
I do think though giving my guts more of a rest and less work can only be a good thing for me!0 -

Liver is definitely not good for you in large amounts - too toxic, as is farmed salmon. Unless you are eating these so-called organic?
Nothing is good for you in large amounts.
My granddad told me that, in his opinion, the key to healthy life is 'everything in moderation'.
He, like me, would eat practically anything.0 -
No wonder you're hungry if you're only eating veg and rice! Where's the protein and fat? That's what keeps you sated.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

Have you been allergy tested KxMx?
If potato is fine in any form, except mashed, it would suggest that whatever you add when you mash it is the culprit, rather than the potato.
I'm in agreement with Chameleon here, with regards to suggesting an eating plan or new foods. But I do wonder if additives in certain foods are causing such a reaction.
I don't know. I don't have the answer (obviously! lol), but I do hope they find the cause and a solution for you soon!

LIR - Why don't you start with just walking around your house at first. That way, if you find you've done too much, you're still at home. It's a step in the right direction.
After a while of that, then you can move onto walks outside and so on.
I hope you feel better soon!

That is a tiny fraction of what I eat, there is a full list early on in the thread. Yes I eat chicken, preferably the dark meat. I eat liver once a week and I eat wild salmon, not farmed.
Way to extrapolate though *applauds*0
