still grain free all these months later. Best thing I ever did for my health along with daily fasting. Speaking of which, I'm 21 hours into a fast and feeling fantastic
JAG! I remember you from handbag forum when you first started off on your journey. You look amazing! Much slimmer and about 10 years younger to boot!
I got my husband to watch the program yesterday - I had to get him on board. When I've done any sort of diet that isn't three meals a day plus snacks he calls it faddy and it's so much easier with him on board. He's agreed to give it a go himself and is really interested in the side effects. We've decided to fast tomorrow and Monday.Mortgage Free by 40 Challenge #190 -
have done 1 day on 600 cals a few days ago, doing my 2nd today
have been writing up a few plans of what to eat on 600 cal days. I make a lot of soup, so will use that for some of the cals. I often use chicken bones and scraps to make stock for soup, does anyone know if the chicken flavoured stock (without the meat scraps) has any calories? I know it has gelatine in it as it sets to a jelly when cold, gelatine has a few calories, but not enough to worry about. Sounds like a stupid question, but are there calories from the meaty flavour? I have googled calories in chicken stock and it varies quite a bit. The bought stuff seems to contain other things giving it calories, but I can't seem to find anything that gives calories for water flavoured with chicken by boiling it, with all the fat and meat removed.
I don't usually bother, but the difference between say, 10 cals per 100g and 40 cals per 100ml, when I would use much more than that for a soup, would be too much on a 600 cal day if not counted
am seeing a friend later who wants to do it too, but is concerned that the diet in this country has too much protein, amnd wants to eat a bit less of it. My plans tend to have quite a lot of protein as I used the proportions from an LCD, so around 34% rather than the 10% recommended.
when I came to tweak my plans for him, I actually found it quite tricky to get the protein down to less than 10% - even using mainly veg. This surprised me rather. So a day where you would have 35g oats (made with water, no sugar), a fruit salad of 100g each of apple, strawberries and raspberries and 50g banana, then 100g each of carrot, courgette and onion, made into fritters with 50g flour and eaten with 100g salad leaves, still came out to 16g protein. 10% of 600 calories works out to 60 cals worth / 4 cals per gram = 15g
any thoughts?0 -

If he's going to restrict his protein intake so much then he risks losing muscle mass as his body will use it for energy instead of fat. It's really not a good idea to restrict protein intake, especially if he's already restricting carbs. What is he planning to eat?“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

Anyway I'm on my second week of the 5:2 and feeling good. Btw, some people on the 5:2 seem to be spacing out their two days of restricted intake. I thought it was supposed to be consecutive? I suppose anything is better than nothing but I suspect there might be more benefits doing it consecutively..0 -
I am doing this but fasting 3 days, Monday, Wednesday, Friday. Started last Wednesday so have had 3 fasted days now of just eating 400 calories in one meal at lunch.
I think people who are eating low calories but throughout the day are completely missing the point of this. Doing what I am doing gives six 18 hour periods a week were I am having zero calories.
I was 86.6kg when I weighed myself this morning which is 3kg (half a stone) lighter than the 89.9kg I was Wednesday morning so very happy with the results so far, especially since my jeans are feeling a bit looser on the waist!0 -
Same goes for Ramadan which is even less of a fast. Must be the biggest misnomer going. You can eat what you want - just not in daylight hours. In what way is that a fast? :rotfl:

People I know that follow the Johnson Upday Downday diet which works the same way don't do two consecutive fast days because this causes your body to go into starvation made, if you spread your fast days out into a regular pattern your body gets used to when to expect food over those days (apparently). Personally I couldn't physically do tw odays of 500 cals in a row, I would feel very faint and headachey."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0 -
Hi
I have decided to try this way of eating however I want to use it mainy for weight loss as well as the health benefits. I usually use low carb diets so this seems completely different.
Yesterday I did a fast day I ate at lunch:
Half a carton of tomato soup, salad, two seeded small loaf pieces of bread and some melon at 1pm and then didn't eat untill 9am today.420 calories
Today ( feast day )
I have eaten
Two boiled eggs on two seeded toast ( 400 calories)
lunch - half soup followed by a small portion of fruit ( melon/ grapes) (400 cal)
am I doing it right? I feel like today I am not on a diet and how can i possibly loose weight!
tea shepherds pie/ veg and a yogurt ( 660 cal)0 -

Hey lovely lady, how are you?!? Ah the handbag days, I do miss that place but gotta say, this seems like a fantastic alternative
Thanks for the lovely comments, I can't believe how much I've changed in the previous years!0 -
That sounds right mummyofboys. Btw they are discussing this over on the mumsnet forum. I fancy joining but I am not a mum!
Today I split it into 3 - a coffee plus boiled egg and a piece of dry toast for breakfast, lunch was a bit of home made veg soup and tonight I had some natural yoghurt (home made) with a bit of celery. I'll have some green tea later. I'm not really hungry - it's what I call 'mouth hunger' as much as anything. Evenings are my weak time so I think I need to get together some low calorie nibbles for tomorrow.
Whatever you do don't watch Dinner Date or Come Dine with Me on your fast days :rotfl:0
