Put on 1 1/2 this week:( My fault ! I'd done so well the week before I thought I could stuff myself and it will still work.

Nikkig, I don't think anyone here is following a Mediterranean diet on any of their feed days. I don't know what book you have but the Dr Michael Mosely one doesn't say anything at all about Mediterranean diet on the 5 days. It's very simple. 2 days a week, you restrict yourself to 500 calories for women and 600 for men. The other 5 days a week you eat what you want. It's worth bearing in mind that if you over indulge and gorge massively on your feast days, the weight loss will be slower but after a few weeks of following the 5:2 diet, you'll find yourself automatically reaching for healthier choices most of the time.
I'm on a fast day today. Mondays was fine, I even had cake at work as it had the cals on the packet. So far have only had a cup of coffee and a cup of hot water so am about to have another coffee. I think my struggle is that I have kind of lost a day yesterday as I was finishing my nights so only had tea. I think I out to have a look at it and start putting one of my fast days on my last night shift. I have borrowed the book for this diet and from what I understand the way the diet works is that on the 5 days you eat normally, the "normally" is actually following the Mediterranean diet.
Is this what everyone is doing or are you all eating just normal "normally" to loose weight? - If that makes sense?
If people are just doing their own variation are you still loosing weight?
I dont have the time to read through all the posts to find out the answer to this!

I think the idea is to keep within your calories requiremenst (plenty of websites to calculate that); ie, if you eat far too much on feast days, you won't lose much or anything at all.
Personally, I eat my own normal diet outside of the 2 days; but that has always included a lot of fruit and veg, and the treats as well but I don't count calories.
Some here are very strict and count their calories, some follow low carb/ paleo diets, some follow slimming world... etc...
I think it's a case of "give it a go and see what works for you, both for weight loss and to make sure you can sustain the lifestyle over time".

They were doing research into breast cancer and trialed this diet from 1995 to 2005. The outcome was that the diet reduced breast cancer by as much as 40%

No it isn't, the Moseley one was based on day on day off fasting but changed to 5:2 to make it easier for him. And does this book you mention say to eat Mediterranean food on your feast days?

Yes - it advocates eating a mediteranean diet on the other days.

I've been doing this since the start of Lent - I think I've lost about 6 lbs so far and definitely look and feel trimmer.
I tend to have porridge about lunchtime on a fast day, with just water and black coffee until them; a stick of celery as a snack in the afternoon and then a low cal meal in the evening - frittata or stir fry. I find I prefer a hot meal rather than a salad - and I do get cold on a fast day.
So far, I'm enjoying it. Eating as normal on the other days but I find that I snack less and worry less about being hungry. Before, I would have to have something to eat but now I'm not bothered as I've already got used to going without food. I'm avoiding high cal foods as well - but not overly consciously.
In a perverse way, I enjoy the fast days and especially the feeling of strength you get from overcoming the hunger pangs.
