oh Noctu - huge hug. Im back, been away and havent managed to do it at all while I was away (thought Id be ok as well, except I dont think the walking Ive been doing at the races can outdo the chocolate and bad stuff Ive had after!!)

Ive got a total of 5/6 stone to lose, am hoping that I can do this diet fairly easily, am banking on crunchy salad being my saviour for work lunches....
Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup

Hi everyone, feeling pretty down today. I'm on the first week of the diet (first weigh in Tuesday), I knew I needed to lose it as I've put on 1 stone since I got married 2 years ago and I was already overweight at that time anyway.

We were at a family birthday party last night and I thought I looked alright in my dress, with 2 pairs of Spanx (!) but just looking back through the photos this morning I look shocking and so fat :( I know I'm on the start of a journey to lose it and I'm hoping so much that this diet works for me as I'm sick of feeling rubbish about myself when I see pics of myself. Doesn't help that I have a hangover as well...

    Meh!!

Bear in mind that there is a lot of truth in the old adage that the camera adds ten pounds. It takes a fair bit of skill on the part of a photographer to overcome the effect.

Thanks both of you :) I'm feeling a bit better now. I go to the gym regularly (2x a week) but I guess I must have been eating the calories I burned off! Frustrating when you make an effort, and I was keeping my HR at >150 constantly, and still didn't get anywhere weight or inches wise.

    Hi
wondered if I could join you lovely people? I did SW successfully last year ans almost got to target, but after 2 family bereavements & suffering very ill health my weight has now ballooned to where I started plus an extra 1.5 stone :(

I'm really interested in the 5:2 plan - but don't really know too much about it (missed the newspaper stuff) can someone give me some info please on what the basics are & can I combine it with doing SW from home? don't think I'm ready to face a sw group again just yet.

    Ta muchly :A

Welcome dizzyk, hope you enjoy being part of our merry band. It's a great place to find advice and support. It's always wise to get the OK from your GP before embarking on any diet.

Basically you have 2 'fast' days a week (restricted calorie days) and on these 2 days you are allowed 500 calories per day if you are a woman and 600 if you are a man. On the other 5 days of the week, you eat normally. Some of us like to be a bit more restrained on the five days and calorie count, but I do not. I just eat as I would have normally which may include treats. Some people find their eating habits change and they are naturally making healthier choices on the five days anyway.

It may be possible to lose 1lb a week, some lose less, some more and some weeks some of us don't lose anything or perhaps put on little, generally though, many of us are having very positive results. Some of us combine the 5:2 with other diets, I think that's entirely down to you if this is the way your feel happy handling it.

There is lots of information on the web about the 5:2 and I'm sure if I have missed anything out or not 'put' it quite correctly, someone more knowledgable than me will pop on and advise.

I will start my fast after my evening meal tonight -I will then have breakfast in the morning from my 500 calories and my evening meal again tomorrow night using the rest of the calories. I will not commence eating normally until Tuesday breakfast time and I will do this twice per week:) HTH Good luck!!

(((Hugs))) Noctu, don't feel downhearted. I hate being photographed:eek: but my DH has no idea why or what I'm on about, so I think I am just very critical.

Glad you're feeling a bit better now though -don't be hard on yourself, although I know it can be very frustrating when you try so hard and nothing seems to happen.

It's up to you. Not many people can do two days consecutively. You don't have to do alternate days either if it doesn't suit.

Well I think I'll be going back to 5:2 this week instead of 4:3 because since Thursday I've been quite poorly. I've had that norovirus again :( Was fine Friday but yesterday got bad again and couldn't go to my Uncle's 60th. Spent it in bed instead and have hardly eaten a thing all weekend so don't want to push myself. I certainly won't be going to the gym tomorrow as planned :o I just wish it wasn't Monday and could spend a bit longer in bed.

    .

Thanks for the info & the warm welcome :) I will get myself organised in the morning & give it a go. I will probably choose monday & Thursday as fast days - these are my busier days when I'm usually at hospital (so my mind won't have time to think about food all day! :rotfl:)

    onwards & downwards eh! :j
