Meant to say the other good measurement to monitor is the 'hip to waist ratio'. Calculated by measuring the waist circumference and dividing by the hip circumference at its widest part.
A WHR of 0.7 for women and 0.9 for men have been shown to correlate strongly with general health and fertility. Women within the 0.7 range have optimal levels of estrogen and are less susceptible to major diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disorders and ovarian cancers.
Men with WHRs around 0.9, similarly, have been shown to be more healthy and fertile with less prostate cancer and testicular cancer.0 -
:j weigh in today and have lost 3lbs this week and another inch around belly button measurement.

One of the effects of the 5:2 is reseting your insulin and hormone systems. So maybe our bodies are restoring stuff as muscle and burning off some of the fat. It's just an idea I had.
Not sure about restoring muscle, but I think that resetting your body's response to insulin is a very likely one. It then follows that with a better control of sugar levels your body is not storing fat but using it more readily.I lost my job as a cricket commentator for saying “I don’t want to bore you with the details”.Milton Jones0 -

Insulin plays a part in muscle building as well along with human growth hormone which is loss affected by the 5:2, like I posted no science just guesswork. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

The 5:2 diet reduces levels of IGF, but increases your levels of HGH. In a normal growing body, the 2 hormones go together.I lost my job as a cricket commentator for saying “I don’t want to bore you with the details”.Milton Jones0 -
Sounds as plausible as anything else ... i don't really mind where it's going as long as it doesn't come back
You and me both! I measured up yesterday and found I'd lost 3 inches all over. I'm happiest with the loss from my chest most. The women in our family have always been large chested so if they continue to get smaller I'll be chuffed!0 -

Lost 20lb now and am well aware it shows, but have noticed 1 negative thing. The odd 'friend' and a 'colleague' or two, who know me more than well enough, seem to be deliberately choosing to say absolutely nothing. Yet people I see just as often, but know much less, have all wasted no time in offering congratulations and enquiring "how have you done it".
One person in particular did brilliantly on Weight Watchers, I never failed to offer encouragement and compliments, she's done great and I told her so. Yet now the boot is on the other foot & she knows I started doing 5:2.......barely a word!
Aren't people strange.
Well done, that is an amazing loss! Never mind the sour people - jealousy!
I had my first fast day yesterday and found it surprisingly easy. I did think about food A LOT but i was never in any sort of ''hunger pains'' or anything near it and even found this morning that eating breakfast was a bit weird, almost like i didn't want it! I'm much less inclined to munch today. Going to go for another fast day over the weekend, probably Sunday as that's my no exercise day and see how i get on.0 -
Fast day today which was well needed after the lunch I had yesterday (grilled goats cheese starter, liver for main and chocolate torte for pudding...nom nom nom!). Had a sushi salad for lunch (Boots 202 calories) and then a tin of tuna with a huge bag of salad for dinner (285 calories). Now having a cup of black tea. Have distracted myself with ironing tonight (Friday night!!!! Woohoo!) but am already thinking about chocolate tomorrow ha ha!!!Make £2012 in 2012 member #88
