Lost 2.5 at weigh in today so around 20 pounds in 5 weeks. Totally fab news for me as now going to fit back into work stuff when return after my maternity leave. Today felt like bit of a cheat though cos I was weighing in trousers rather than my usual jeans as was taking my mum for an early Mother's Day lunch so think I need to be extra good this week now to make up for today! Have fast day tomorrow and lots of walking and some swimming planned as car being fixed so that might get me going in the right direction for this week. I'd be happy with a pound off by next week or even maintaining as been a lot off in short time for me. Mind you I'm still 4.5 pounds heavier than what used to be my all time fat weight!!!! Such a long way to go but can see it as manageable on this plan! X

Another 1lb lost - only 3 more to go but I think it will take me at least to the end of the month for it to go, maybe longer but I don't care I shall carry on onward & downward - lol

I love the 5:2 diet, my weight loss has been slow but steadily travels in the right direction, so I've never 'given up' like I have on any other diet.

Lost 20lb now and am well aware it shows, but have noticed 1 negative thing. The odd 'friend' and a 'colleague' or two, who know me more than well enough, seem to be deliberately choosing to say absolutely nothing. Yet people I see just as often, but know much less, have all wasted no time in offering congratulations and enquiring "how have you done it".

I've purposely tried NOT to be a diet bore, and don't go round shoving my daily/weekly/overall weight loss in failed dieters faces, so I find it a bit hurtful that this small pocket of people can't say "well done", particularly when I know full well they have a good look at me when they think I'm not looking.

One person in particular did brilliantly on Weight Watchers, I never failed to offer encouragement and compliments, she's done great and I told her so. Yet now the boot is on the other foot & she knows I started doing 5:2.......barely a word!

    Aren't people strange.

There's nowt strange as folk! and Jealousy is a horrible thing. Of course it could just be that they see you so often they don't look at you .... if you know what I mean :)

Anyway - you're losing, and your happy about that, and people are noticing :)

A guy i used to like noticed my loss me at the weekend - a guy!! lol so something must be going right! :)

Keep up the good work :)

And well done to all you 'losers' today! :)

Yes this is what I don't understand at all. The weight loss is ok but doesn't really reflect the inches that I am losing, which is amazing -where's it all going?:rotfl:

Does anyone want to hear my half baked, non peer reviewed, science light proposition as to why this happens?

One of the effects of the 5:2 is reseting your insulin and hormone systems. So maybe our bodies are restoring stuff as muscle and burning off some of the fat. It's just an idea I had.

Sounds as plausible as anything else ... i don't really mind where it's going as long as it doesn't come back :)

It's crazy the inches lost isn't it its only my second week and clothes are hanging off me but scales only down 3 lb last week makes no sense but tis nice lol have a fab day all x

It's not crazy at all. These are 4 ladies results of weight management courses I do, after 8 weeks (no fasting, by the way, just re-evaluating dietary requirements and healthy eating). Measurements taken from waist and hips.

    lost 3lb + 6.75 inches

weight stayed the same, but 3.25 inches lost

lost 8lbs in weight and 6.25 inches

lost 6lb but lost 8.25 inches

We are all different and weight and measurements don't often correlate.

The lady with the first stats was slim but with no waist, she had a tyre where it should have been, and 5 of those inches came from there.

If you are a certain shape and carry weight (often water) in certain areas, these will be the bits you notice first, it's how the body reacts to different foodstuffs and ways of eating, it's not down to 5:2 - although it may have a bearing that I don't know about.
