Hi you're totally right, I think I have lost sight of how much I need - and just pigged out. So this week will be different.
Officially lost 0.2 lbs ... so at least it was the right direction
I've done some research on my TDEE and I'm a bit confused.
My TDEE is around 2040 - so 500 cals per fast day is fine ... and will stick to 2040 on my non fast days ...
BUT MFP says my daily cals should be 1330 - weekly thats 9310 taking the 1000 for the 2 x 500 days leaves me with 8310 for the other 5 days which is only 1662 cals per day
So you see my confusion - 2040 and 1662 are quite different - do i try and sit somewhere in the middle, or just trust the TDEE (of course that's the one I want to work! lol)
And there's me thinking this diet was meant to be easy! lol

I think you are trying too hard and overthinking it. Stop counting calories on non fast days. Fasting will stop you bingeing and by fasting you have a huge calorie deficit per month anyway. You have to keep up your metabolism. Relax and stop thinking about food on non fast days. Just eat when you are hungry. But be very strict with yourself on fast days.
Your weight loss of half a pound a week is okay. My loss was slow too. You will get there if you continue - just as you continued to gain weight slowly although it was probably slower than you are losing it at present.
I have lost over a stone and am now 8 stone 10lbs on this diet. I have not been able to lose weight on any other diet. On non fast days I eat curry, fish and chips, chocolate, ice cream, biscuits, cake, white bread, casseroles, pizza, chilli, bolognese - I could go on and on. You are no different from anyone else so if you follow the rules you should lose weight and become healthier. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0 -
On my 8th fast day today, and as poster above says I also hadn't been able to lose weight on any other diet, Pig to twig (low carb), low cal, WW, reduced calories etc..
However was advised to look at this thread and have now lost 6 lbs in total since 04/01 (my weight moves VERY SLOWLY usually) I have noticed though that on non fast days I dont feel that hungry, but have a small breakfast and then usually a sandwich for lunch and tea with the family.
Yesterday (feed day) though didn't get around to a sandwich and ended up picking all day and into the evening - ate rubbish and I dread to think how many cals in total!
So for me I think I need to plan what I eat on non fast days, but not calorie count IYKWIM0 -
I'm confused by the tdee calculators. One I've just done calculated that my tdee is 2148. I'm willing to bet anything that I don't consume that much on a non fast day, though that's not from willingly cutting my calories. I just eat sensibly, 3 meals a day etc. I've been losing weight but then people say the tdee and how much you eat on fast days should be balanced to get the true benefits.
So, is that 2148 the calories i would need to maintain my weight? Or should I just carry on not counting what I eat on non-fast days if it's working so far?0 -
If you are losing weight, and that is what you want, just carry on.
Those tdee calculators give results based on an average person's needs. My wife has quite a small frame and finds that they overestimate for her too.0 -

I don't calorie count but I eat 3 meals a day without anything in between on non fast days. Included in that is dessert after dinner. I sometimes have a hot chocolate made with half milk and half water at bedtime. Picking all day is not a good idea because you are never really full. Its better to structure mealtimes and enjoy food but then stop till the next meal.
Having said that you will probably be surprised that after eating that much you haven't gained any weight. I have often on this diet eaten what I thought was too many calories and then found I had still lost weight. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0 -

That's our 2nd fast day this week over (Mon & Wed). I think this must be the easiest diet ever. I am really enjoying it as I like planning and cooking the low calorie meals on fast days. It can be a bit of a challenge as my husband is happy to go without breakfast (his normal is a bowl of a sugar frosted cereal) he expects a 'proper' lunch and dinner. Soup doesn't count as a 'proper' lunch as far as he is concerned. Also he doesn't like many vegetable or salads.
We had some Q*o*n beef strips with peppers, red onion, lettuce and tomato in a small wrap with a tbspn fat free yogurt and horseradish. It was very tasty and made a change. Only problem was the wrap was too small to actually 'wrap' it round the filling.
Off to Egypt on Monday and definitely not fasting whilst there. Will start again on our return. Can't put on too much weight though or new size 14 trousers wont fit!!!
Good luck to everyone.0 -

Hi ... I really appreciate your comments, but as someone much larger, 0.5lb a week is not enough for the defecit of calories on the non fast days, therefore I am eating too much on my up days. Following Weight Watchers strictly I lost 1.5 - 2lb every week, so I know what my body can do. But I believe everyone IS different and loses weight differently, so I do need to keep a check of my non fast days.
Thanks0 -
