I've just registered for free at Sparkpeople.com where you can enter your foods and find out their nutritional value/calorific value. It also gives you a pie chart at the end of the day that shows you visually how much protein, carbohydrate and fat you've had.
However, you don't really want to get to the stage that you're obsessing about how much you're eating on your non-fast days as that really takes the shine out of life!
Hope this helps.0 -

You got my hopes up there. However, you don't really want to get to the stage that you're obsessing about how much you're eating on your non-fast days as that really takes the shine out of life!
I doubt I'll get that bad but I think it will help if I know how much is enough. We've just booked summer holiday so that is an added incentive too.Hope this helps.
It does. Thanks.0 -
I made it in the end - 554 Calories for the whole day,(I had a fair sized sweet potato made into oven chips with one tsp of oil and some dunns river spicing, some lighter than light mayo and a couple of picked gherkins for my tea.) and a couple of black coffees. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. It might be worth counting your calories for a few weeks elletee just to make sure that you're not going way over what you should be having. It could be that you have lost sight of how much food is really needed and are eating far too much on a daily basis or it could just be that you're going to shift weight slowly and then have a drop.
It's also possible that your weight is not what you're expecting/ hoping for because your are nearing your TOTM? Not sure of your age so could be way out there though.
Enjoying eating tonight
Hi you're totally right, I think I have lost sight of how much I need - and just pigged out. So this week will be different.
Officially lost 0.2 lbs ... so at least it was the right direction
I've done some research on my TDEE and I'm a bit confused.
My TDEE is around 2040 - so 500 cals per fast day is fine ... and will stick to 2040 on my non fast days ...
BUT MFP says my daily cals should be 1330 - weekly thats 9310 taking the 1000 for the 2 x 500 days leaves me with 8310 for the other 5 days which is only 1662 cals per day
So you see my confusion - 2040 and 1662 are quite different - do i try and sit somewhere in the middle, or just trust the TDEE (of course that's the one I want to work! lol)
And there's me thinking this diet was meant to be easy! lol

You can't do the 5:2 and have a low calories diet the rest of the time. A low calorie diet changes your metabolism which in turns compromises the metabolic change you are trying to achieve with the 5:2.I lost my job as a cricket commentator for saying “I don’t want to bore you with the details”.Milton Jones0 -
Yes but i need something to help me control the non fast days - as it seems I have been eating too much.
So I'll stick to the 2000 cals this week and see what happens0 -
Hi All,
I'm new to the thread but I've been doing this diet for around 4 weeks now and I've lost around 5 lbs and an inch of my waist. However most of this was in the first two weeks.
I did find the fast days hard although they've gotten easier. However, I've veered between 500-600 on the calories. Just hoping the exercise I do makes up for the difference!
I find it really easy in general because I found it so hard to plan family meals around SW (only other diet I've tried). My two boys are a bit of a nightmare to feed as well so it can be tough making a meal we all like whilst trying to cut calories.
On fast days I usually fill up on bovril/green tea and bring the dog for a brisk walk when the rest of the family are sitting down to a big dinner!
It's a great long-term diet and even though I've only lost a few pounds - several of my friends have noticed it and are inspired to join me. Also, on non-fast days you don't have to keep refusing food or choose the least fattening dish on the menu. (nothing as boring as going out for a meal with a dieter!)
I normally fast on Mondays and Wednesdays so I'm on a fast day today. I've just had a cup of bovril, a slice of plain, unbuttered toast and a shapers bar - so just over 200cals so far. Going for a run tonight as well so that should help - then it's an early night for me!

Sorry, only just seen this post.
You can cook it briefly in the microwave. I cooked it on the hob, in a little bit of water with some spices to try and make it taste less cauliflower-y. I'm not a huge cauliflower fan.0
