    Hi All

This is my first week of 5:2 and i've done both my fast days (Monday and Thursday). I was fine on Monday, but struggled a bit yesterday. But I did it, and am looking forward to my weigh in on Monday and another week!

Some great tips on this thread and really friendly people :)

    Good luck everyone :):)

Hope today's FD is going well for everyone, did my 10th FD yesterday and am happy to say I lost another 2lb, which means have lost just over 10lb since I started my Fast diet :j

I find the morning after a FD I am not in a hurry to eat, and today didnt feel the need for anything till lunch time today.
Following horizon 5-2 started 28/01/13 target where I am now ish :)
Maintaining now as DW doesn't want my legs to get any skinnier :D
    Total Loss=41.6lb

    I've been Money Tipped!
The ryvita crispbreads are on special offer in Waitrose!
£1 a pack with some interesting flavours and between 38 and 44 kcals per slice...:rotfl:

One thing that I really like with the 5:2 diet is that aim full of energy.
Fasted yesterday, had breakfast this morning and did 2 classes at the gym!

Must say, today's been my second fast day and I've found it tougher than Tuesday. Mainly because the guy i sit next to at work has been acting like a child all day and has sat eating cakes and biscuits all day too :o Not on purpose I'll add but still...

Just got home so going to make some dinner now. Not sure what I'll have but mum's been shopping so I'll see what I can find. I know one thing I do need, a cup of tea! :)

Hi, I am thinking of starting this 5:2 diet as 2 kids later I would really like to lose some weight! Well not actually weight, I don't care what I weigh as long as I can get rid off the baby tummy that is really not flattering. Will that work? I don't have scales but I could pop over to a neighbour once a week. I suppose that would at least let me know if anything was happening (or not!) and hopefully the trim tum would come later .....

So I thought I would try today. Monday's and Friday's are best for me as I work from home, kids at school and childminder and I don't have too much running around to do.

Not so sure I have done it properly, I could not fast for 24 or 36 hours, I need to eat but just try and keep the amount/calories down. Not eating makes me feel sick, headachey, shakey etc and I'm not really convinced it's that good for you.
So I tried by putting off my breakfast until after the school run, did some work first and had 2 weetabix about 10am, then a cup of tea. Lunch about 1.30pm was 1 slice of bread with left over sausage, small amount of ketchup, small handful of crisps as the packet was open:o then walked to school and had half a tea cake and cup of tea with the kids as starving  DH made carbonara for tea, I had a smaller portion than normal with a glass of water about 5.45pm.

Kids bathed and in bed so settle down in front of tv and try not to think of the hot chocolate I normally have !!

Sorry to bore with a long post. Does this sound OK or am I doing it all wrong? Can I really eat what I want on the other 5 days or do I need to cut down still? Also does fruit count or can I eat as much of that as I like?

As the weather gets nicer I will start running a few miles a few times a week again. Too harsh to go out in the cold. And although it makes me feel better I can't see that running on it's own made any difference to me/my tummy.

Thanks guys, hopefully I can stick to this, I have never tried a diet before as I don't think I really have the willpower, but nothing ventured nothing gained and moaning about it won't change anything:D

From what I gather of it (what i've read online, I don't have the book), you should keep your calorie intake down to 500 on 'fast days'. Fruit has calories in it so on fast days you can't really eat as much as you like, but obviously you can have more on normals days.

I don't go overboard on normal days and just stick to eating sensibly without being too hard on myself. I have the odd treat still. Just stick to the usual RDA's that you see on packs of food.

Today was my fast day. I had a meal yesterday at 6:30pm then nothing until a banana at 7:15am today. At around 11am I had a small apple then at 1pm I had some soup. When I got home at 4pm I had a cup of tea and scrambled eggs on one slice of wholemeal toast. About to have another cuppa but then that will be it until breakfast tomorrow morning.

I don't know if i'm doing it right but I've not had more than 500cals so I hope I'm ok.

What do I feel about the fasting and is it working !
Yes it's working for me, but I don't believe it's just the fasting aspect that is helping me lose weight !
I would use any excuse to eat, from I didn't like to waste food, so any food that was left on my family's plate may have ended up in my tummy instead , too its only a snack and won't do any harm.
I'm 47 and knew I needed to lose weight as it wasn't doing me any good, and with a special needs child I want to be around as long as possible to look after him.
What the fasting diet has taught me, is that it is okay to feel hungry it's not going to kill me. Last night during my FD yes I felt something in my tummy, but it wasn't real hunger, it was something i could deal with and would go away.
I believe it has helped me to understand how much in the past I have been eating for eating sake !
I hope to be able to continue with this fasting diet even when I hopefully reach the weight where I want to be, and then drop down to the one day a week maintenance plan .
On my feast days I don't abuse it, well maybe a little after some red wine : D but I believe I am eating more controlled now than I have ever before, oh and this is the first diet I have ever been on.

OK, just your weetabix with milk comes to about half of what a fasting calorie intake should be. You probably finished it with the bread and sausage (depending on how much was left). Ketchup, crisps, tea cake and carbonara were all surplus. So no, you're not doing it right, I'm afraid.

The 5:2 regime means eating only 500 (for females) to 600 (for males) calories on 2 non-consecutive days. The other 5 days of the week you can eat anything, but the 2 days have to be strict, otherwise there's no point. If you eat twice the calories on the fast days, and reduce your calories on the other 5, then you're on a low calorie diet and are not getting any benefits (physiological and psychological) from the 5:2 diet.

If you can't not eat for long periods of time, it's OK to split your 500 kcals into three very small meals. If you haven't got an idea of the calorific value of foods, there are online resources for that (myfitnesspal and fitday have been mentioned), also websites with recipes have been posted on this thread.

I hope this doesn't come across as harsh - I wish you the best of luck with this way of eating! It works for so many people, but not for everyone - actually, with your symptoms of feeling sick and shaky when not eating, it may not be right for you. I'd urge you to check with your GP before trying again, as your symptoms may indicate blood sugar issues. On the other hand, it might be as simple as eating too much sugar/carbs - but that's not something that can be determined on an internet forum.

Good luck, and it's great that you're motivated to tighten up that tummy! I know exactly how you feel, it's my worst body part as well, but the good news is that it's steadily reducing. I also suggest occasional weight training to tighten the skin and build muscles which burn fat.
    Cogito, ergo sum.

So I have discovered that knowing your TDEE (calculators on line) and eating only a quarter of it on fast days is key to making this work, getting autophagy to kick in. I've lost 11lbs in 2 months, had a bit of a stall mid-February, but wonderful people pointed this science out to me and got things going downwards again. Hurrah!
