  • Here's the info on eating high fat foods etc on non fasting days - admittedly, it relates to ADF (Alternate day fasting) rather than the 5 2 diet specifically, but the findings are interesting:

Woop woop :T:T Ben and Jerrys weekend it is then ;)
  • On the smoking debate, I packed in nearly 2 years ago. I stopped using Champix. Wish I'd have done it years ago! I too found it quite easy. However, I wouldn't have like to stop by going cold turkey, that would have been incredibly hard! Melbury, you are hardcore my friend!

But .... when I packed in smoking that's when I started on the healthy eating and exercise that would control my life for the next 18 months. So I think I swapped one addiction for another.

I must be one of those people who get addicted to 'things'. Just wish those 'things' where carrots, cauliflower, green beans etc and not wine, beer and chocolate.

I have also read this article which I agree, is rather interesting. I think I am already tending to make healthier choices on non fast days but it's good to know that having something a bit less healthy isn't going to wreck everything.

I can't wait for weigh in tomorrow and am tempted to jump on the scales because I 'feel' thinner. However, the truth will be revealed tomorrow and knowing my luck I will have either stayed the same or put some on -hastening to add, I haven't been naughty on my fast days and have stuck rigidly to the plan and I have been quite good on non fast days too. However, as it is Friday, I might just have a few sneaky treats tonight:D

Well done to all fasters yesterday:T and best of luck to all of todays:)

  • Well that lemon meringue I downed last night should be ok then, even though it was HUNDREDS of calories! Good to know as fasting today and would love to see a reduction in weight tomorrow. I've sort of stopped counting cals on feed days this week just to see if it makes a difference, having stuck to 1500 previously. All in the name of research of course (teehee). Good luck everyone, may your temptations be small.
    :hello:
  • Funny that we're talking about smoking. As it was giving up four years ago that resulted in me piling on the weight, at least three stone and I wasn't exactly sylph like to start with.

I gave up using the nicotine lozenges, was off the fags immediately but took me another 6 months to get off the lozenges.

My mother in law is having a similar problem with the nicotine chewing gum.

Anyway is it sad that I'm actually jealous of you fasters? After my op I'm not sure if I'll be strong enough to start again on Monday. Might as well give it a go though eh?

If I feel ill or too weak I can always just eat.

Fast day for me today, should have been yesterday, but I was going out with friends to eat so swapped to today.
So far only had water and not feeling too hungry at all. I will be having some carrot and corriander soup for lunch,100 cals, and then I'm going to try one of the M&S stay fuller longer ready meals for tea, not sure which one, going shopping later so will see what I fancy.
I would normally have a glass or 2 of wine on a Friday, but we are going to a quiz night and I'll be the driver so will stick with diet tonic.
I can feel a difference in that I feel much less bloated and I wore my tightest jeans last night and they definitely felt more comfortable than the last time I wore them:)

That actually suits me on reading the article as I often go just over my recommended fat intake on non fast days but only by 10% or less. On non fast days I try to stick to 2270-2620 Calories, 255-426g of digestible carbohydrates, 50-102g of fat and 50-229g of protein. This is tailored to my size, health, goals and activity level.

Anyway reduced fat is not the same as reduced Calories a kg of refined sugar has no fat, but 3870 Calories confusion over this is one way the diet industry cons people.

Melbury - that's what I found too - thought I was going to stick at that weight - but this week I've dropped after both fast days - now down to 151.4lb so really glad I persevered.

  • Hi all
I'm fasting today. My second this week. It feels a bit easier today (so far anyway)

I went shopping yesterday and had a huge lunch (which I did finish!) and had chocolate last night. Will see how this affects weightloss.

I think this diet (I prefer eating plan too Eliza) needs to be long term rather than a quick fix weight loss and I need to work on changing my tastebuds. How to change from a sweet tooth - any ideas anybody? Tried hypnotherapy - didn't work.

    Good luck all

PS I gave up smoking overnight too when I was in hospital for an operation. I never smoked again and found it much easier than fasting - or perhaps that's just a rose tinted memory;)

One of the many things i love about this way is the eating is that you that you can safely ignore "diet industry" ,work it out for yourself and eat whatever you want 5 days a week

I'm sure they'll try and get there claws into it , no doubt weightwatchers are already working on a "Fast Day" range.
