Well, yes. But they have other overheads to cover than just connection fees.0

This is getting somewhat off-track.
The issue here is about taking responsibility.
The OP made a decision to give his daughter a phone that was in his name as she was too young to have her own contract.
He chose not to use PAYG or a contract with a cap.
He chose a tariff where the calls were expensive if the limits were exceeded.
He chose not to monitor the usage.
Thus he chose to expose himself to financial risk that was completely avoidable
The financial risk materialised.
So what is his complaint?0 -

No, this thread is an example of people who sign up for contracts without checking the small print and then kick off when it all goes Pete Tong and they blame everyone else but themselves.
But hey, it doesn't matter, as long as they have that nice new shiny phone and all that......I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂0 -

" Check online daily " WOW you really do have alot of time on your hands.
Yeah, those 2-3 minutes in a whole day really stop you from going out... :rotfl:I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Are you for real?
Have a look at the tariffs offered in Ireland for example.... and that's just for starters. Then look at the rest of the world and you'll see we have some of the best value tariffs on the planet.
When did ringing POLICE number at 35p a minute from Orange become "some of the best value tariffs on the planet" ? Hopefully the merge of all to the "Scottish Police Force" will mean a number that is cheap to call because Orange wont put a 0800 on their 0800 freebie list for a constubulary !SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe0 -
Inter-connection rates to mobile networks are currently 1.70p not 35p+ a minute for 1 April 2012/13 & 2013/14 are to be 1.08p and then finally 1 April 2014/15 0.69p
May 2009 European Commission published a recommendation that member states should aim to set mobile termination rates in a way that only takes into account costs that are incurred directly from terminating calls from other networks. The Commission has indicated that it expects rates to be between around 1.5 to 3 cents by the end of 2012 across member states.SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... its been mentioned a few times that the OP could have at least been sent a text, who says there wasnt a text sent and her daughter deleted it? These texts usually say your close to your allowance and then you have exceeded you allowance. If she is being sneaky by calling during the night then surely she is sneaky enough to delete these texts if they ever came.
It would be nice of Vodaphone to reduce the bill even by a slight %.
I doubt they will & to be honest it is not their fault at all.
i would be taking the phone away from her along with selling anything she has worth anything to pay of the bill.would love to win an ipad!

The blame has been the customer's from the point that the daughter started using the phoneThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Let's try to put this one to bed.
1. Should all networks offer the option to cap monthly spend or at least alert you when you are reaching a predetermined amount? I think it would be a good move, so YES.
2. Did OP's network offer this? No
3. Had OP any information or any reason to expect that network would alert or cap monthly spend if it reach? Was OP ever asked to supply a notional credit limited a certain amount on the account? No
4. Was there any dispute that the service was used to the amount stated or that the amounts were calculated correctly? Not so far.
So what we have is a situation where the network has done nothing wrong, but people wish that there was a brake of some sort to avoid this situation happening..
The simple fact is that we can sympathise with OP in the situation they find themselves, but they created the circumstances to allow this to occur by not going for a network with a monthly cap or PAYG. There appeared to be no thought before the event as to this sort of situation, and it is their irresponsible daughter that has failed their expectations, not the network. Of course the bill is a huge shock and certainly a request for goodwill is a must, but blaming the network for not having a cap when OP didn't bother seeking out a network that offered one is not network's fault.
Whatever the Utopian scenario should or should not be is one thing - making the best choices available in what is currently available is far more realistic.0
