Then you should call 101 which is 15p per call then!

Also, I was referring to the actual plans, ie: xxx mins for £xx, not the roll-on rate.

If you call the police so much, and you cannae call 101, then go on T-Mobile as they allow all 08xx numbers in their minutes (ex Full Monty)

Why the FOOK should anyone be charged ANYTHING for calling any of the OFFICIALLY appointed EMERGENCY services ? Who said I call the police so much ? One call ended up costing more than my priceplan for the month, just to report a crime as a witness.

As posted further the EU want interconnection rates down to 3cents a min.

AU has the cheapest actually, where calling FREEPHONE numbers is FREE on UNLIMITED plans.

The roll on rates or excluded numbers are the problem, sheer telecom greed, whom get to choose which "helplines" are included or chargeable, that is Ofcom's remit to protect users accesing vital public services.

T-Mob for those with 3G handsets that cannot be locked to 3G is a no no...your call is handed over to T-Mob 2G, the diabolical network that forced Deutche Telecom to build 3G so rapid & quick.

And it's "cany" in this part of the great north of britain.
SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe ;)

Pretty sure you're paying a monthly fee for them...
As I said, it doesn't cost me anything and I even make some small profit. Everything is covered by cashback and redemption payments. Ultimately it is the network who pays me.

WHY do so many people think this is Vodafone's responsibility?

    ....

    well they aren't 100% responsible - only 90% responsible

they have taken £5 service - rounded it up to £1300 (why they didn't make £13,000 is anyones guess) and beaten a child over the head with it

scary thing about this thread - is that the oh so righteous posters actually wish it was £13,000, because that will make them so much more righteous

    it is scary
When will the "Edit" and "Quote" button get fixed on the mobile web interface?

    What utter drivel!

The op signed up to a contract that had t&c's attached to it that would have clearly stated the charges for going outside your allocation. The op then foolishly gave the phone to thir daughter who then proceeded to use £1300 worth of calls outside her allowance.
I don't see the problem, op should speak to voda about paying in installments, get the teenager to take a pt job and she can contribute to the repayments.

Then you'll have people on here whinging that they needed to make an "emergency" call but couldn't as they ran out of the minutes/went over their limit etc.
If by 'emergency' you mean 999 you can call this even from a locked phone.

  • We had a similar thing happen with our teenager (thankfully not so high - around £500). Vodafone were very helpful - we decided to increase the monthly tariff slightly and Vodafone did make a very acceptable goodwill reduction.

Teenager made to pay us back the overspend with a combination of cash and chores.

To OP - hope you have a similar goodwill gesture.

Which part of post #92 don't you get??? Point out any flaw in my logic, if you can.

You might also reconsider the "beaten a child over the head with it" over-emotive comment as Vodafone have a contract with the father and, not only that, parents reduced initial contract as daughter wasn't using her minutes/texts!!!

welshjenni's post preceding this one shows what a responsible parent's attitude should be. Posts like yours, however, just appear to represent the blinkered ant-business, "not my fault guv" attitude that completely ignores the facts but always blames the big guy because, in your book, the little guy, no matter what they do wrong, is never at fault.

Don't get me wrong - I have taken on big business in the past and, when they err, such as the current threads of Orange taking multiple DDs or 3 refusing to reinstate a MSE member's DD, I am 100% behind the little guy. But in this case, the case is clear cut and it does you no credit to try to heave the blame on Vodafone and even suggest that they are beating a child - who isn't even their customer - about the head.

Be more objective rather than subjective and your views will carry more respect.

Strange how when banks sell PPI, endowments, and unsuitable pensions to mugs who don't do their research, they get done for mis-selling. Yet mobile operators & shops seem to actively target children with something the law says is unsuitable for them.

What next, off-licences trying to get parents to buy booze for children? Banks trying to get parents to add their 8-year old as an additional cardholder on their credit card? Walking into the pub with my kids and the barmaid trying to persuade me to buy them a pint of Stella instead of a coke?

What an amazing genaralisation and total bo11ox.

My DD has had a contract phone for the last 3.5 years that I pay for and never run up a large bill. Next month she will get a contract in her own name as she will be 18.

Somebody will no doubt say that I was lucky. However it is not luck that my child can successfully use a contract phone for so long without going mad with it. Maybe go back and look at the relationship and trust between parent and child as it isn't as close as you would like to think

The OP had exactly the same trust in her daughter, until this.
