I was not looking for freebies. just a reply from Julian Graves! I found a piece of stone in a pack of chocolate sultanas, emailed the JG's, after a week received a reply saying the complaint was being passed to another department. No reply. Three weeks ago I copied the complaint to one 'Nick Shutt' (I believe that is his name); no reply. Copied it two weeks later - guess what? No reply. Service? Huh!!!0

Last year I was on a course at work and the title was "What Can We Do For The Staff Which Would Cost The Company Nothing" or it was something close to that. well it was nearly 12 months ago. Anyway I decided I would send some emails out to companies asking for a discount for staff from my company. We have around 550 employees.
I managed to get a great discount for corporate golf days out in Llanymynech Golf Course which is/was owned by Ian Woosnam, this course is quite unique as on one of the holes you tee off in England and you finish the hole in Wales. The discount was 1/3rd off for corporate events with ten or more people.
I also got £2 off for all employess on the boats that cruise the River Dee in Chester.
I got a 10% discount off a catering firm which has actually catered for the queen twice. This was maybe a bit of a cheat as the lady who runs it, her son actually works with me, but if you don`t ask, then you will never know what the answer will be.
Also managed to get a free £15 bottle of wine in a lovely pub on the Wrexham/England border as long as you had a meal for two. Again, maybe a slight cheat, the head chef`s girlfriend also works in my place.
I did fiund it very very easy to get discounts though, probably more so because I was getting a discount for a large firm. but I thought to myself if I have managed to bag these discounts for staff where I work, then imagine what the top brass from companies in this country would be able to achieve, if they were really interested in their staff!
I only contacted eight firms and I got a discount from four of them which is a pretty good, don`t you think?0 -
I recently wrote to almia re their malteasers hot chocolate drink, as i really enjoyed it, i dont like tea or coffee, and i find most hot choc drinks bland in taste. they replied to my email and sent me 3 sachets of Galaxy hot chocolate drink to try too!
I work in CS, and find so many people rude and very willing to complain if things dont go their way if it was my fault or (in most cases) not!
I have got gifts from happy clients though, including champagne, wine, flowers and cards, which is very nice to recieve.
As we say, people like to complain, but if something is good or they like it, they rarely say thanks or tell people!
I love this idea, we should praise people for their 'niceness' and i always say thank you to people if they were helpful.Trainee Wakeboarder, Fashion and celebrity devotee!0 -
I'm a bit lost on this site as it is very busy. I wanted to know how, when people reply, they have what their debts are underneath and how much they aim to pay off and if they are on target etc and then totals may be crossed out with a new total....how do they do that????0

That made hardly any sense, i'm sorry.0 -
I tend not to send letters of thanks to companies as many really don't deserve thanks. I also use online shopping and fill out the review surveys after I get the goods. A few have been really good but I never get anything back other than an automated thank you for your time email.
The best thing I ever got back was when I once complemented a pretty girl for help on choosing a better product and gave her a a big tip for saving me a lot of cash. She looked shocked and gave me a kiss!! (I think that was better than a freebie!)0 -
I've written praise letters in the past to PJ's smoothies about their banana, pineapple and cocounut smoothie which I adored and thought was a thousand times better than anything Innocent made. They sent me several vouchers for free smoothies. (Ironically, before I'd even used up all the vouchers, they changed their range and stopped making this smoothie... however Innocent now make one instead! Go figure.)
I also wrote to Proctor and Gamble about their Soft and Gentle aerosol deodorants being the nicest smelling, most effective, and best value deodorants out there. They sent me a nice email back saying how nice it was to hear positive comments and they would be passed on.
I don't think there's anything sinister about praising good products and services, unless you specifically ask for freebies. If you praise someone and it makes them feel good, surely there's nothing wrong in that? It's up to them how they'd like to respond (if at all).By replying to this post you are agreeing to my Terms and Conditions which state that I am correct0 -
