Hey CKhalvashi, why don't you take a deep breath and re-post your monthly outgoings when you have got the real numbers? Hope it will be of benefit to yourself to know what goes out of your bank account for basic living expenses ;-) .

I know it's often difficult to stay on top of your finances when you have a busy job - -- but there's [almost] nothing more important than being in control of your finances.

That may be a better idea!

I'm in my home country at the moment (on holiday), whilse dealing with significant family problems, trying to keep myself busy.

    It doesn't bode well.

I make that £3,938 (barring a malfunction of my calculator

Never mind your spend on Sky (do you do anything apart from watching Sky?) , why do you spend £100 Gas + £100 Electric? £200 on gas and electric sounds way too much

I make that £4,808 per month and assume you have no issues paying your obligations each month

Sky is OH's thing, we have two HD boxes with full packages, he loves his movies and sports and that's how he relaxes. We have a Victorian detatched 5 bed so takes a lot of heating hence the large gas bill, lots of gadgets and house is home automated hence large electricity bill. We also have cc debt from renovating house and we get by monthly but not saving much at moment.

My largest outgoing by far is nursery fees.

    Nursery £800
    Council tax £99 over 10mths
Gas / Lekky £85 but I get a months refund every November for loyalty
    Water £24
    Tv/ phone/ broadband £45
    Tv licence £12
    Mobile £30
    Diesel £80
    Union £6

Can't think what else. I do pay £10 a month into my friends "girls weekend" pot, lol. We are going to a spa tomorrow...

Insurances I pay annually, but I do have things like critical illness and private medical cover for me and the kids directly out of my salary.

Me and two toddlers in a 4bed house. They are in nursery 3 days and my eldest gets funding for 5 sessions a week, term time. It's annualised and discounted off my bill but still leaves it £800pcm.

    House Insurance........ 46.00

There's more, it comes to about £750 a month, that's how much I transfer to our billing account on pay day, all the DD's get paid from that account, it works for us because we can move it and forget it - don't have to worry that we're spending someone elses money. No one touches the billing account until after the 6th - then anything left in there we reclaim.

We have a home insurance thingy package where they look after the boiler, drains, electrics, plumbing etc that's about £30 I think, but once upon a time, our boiler broke and we didn't have hot water for almost two years, just couldn't afford to get it fixed, it happened the year we had a baby and we had to boil kettles to wash, bath, everything. We promised ourselves we'd never be in that position again.

My travel/our food come out of the wftc every week .

One student renting a room up north.. there are 3 of us in the house, but I've just put my share of the bills down, per month or equivalent.

    Rent: £216
Gas/Electric: £40 (Was on a prepay meter, expecting this to go down now we've moved!)
    Water: £7
    Mobile: £32.50
    Broadband: £7
    Food: £80
    Contents insurance: £5
    Musical instrument insurance: £4

    Total: £384.50

Whatever is left goes on train fares to visit friends, and buying sheet music/cooking stuff :o it adds up to a surprising amount! I have to save towards instrument service costs and moving costs each year as well, so probably more like £500/month, maybe £550. Good thing I have work this summer!
