What are your average monthly outgoings?? Mine first....

So, I know this type of thread has been around before, but I'm in the mood to be nosy (and also need advice if my outgoings sound high or unusual or anything - they shocked me to be honest).

OBV please state no. of people and house size.

ME: only me, 2 bed house, PER MONTH
Mortgage £590
Council Tax £80
Electricity £80 (used to be £30 before the price hike :( )
Gas £40
Water £53
TV licence £12
Broadband + landline £26
Mobile £30
Home Insurance £16
Life Assurance (have to have for mortgage) £10
Car tax £20
Car Insurance £30
Commuting petrol £120
Debt repayment £35

I haven't included food (as it is so different for different people) or other petrol or toiletries or clothes, just bills.

What do people think?

Considering it's just you, you seem to be paying an awful lot for gas and electric. You aren't growing special plants, are you? [:rotfl:]

Off the top of my head ...

    Three bed house, two adults.

Mortgage £523 (paid off by the end of the year)
Council Tax £70 (this is the equivalent 12-monthly figure)
Electricity + Gas dual fuel £62
    Water £25
    TV licence £12
Mobile £15 (unlimited SMS, unlimited data, 300 minutes)
    Home Insurance £15
    Car tax £14
    Car Insurance £20
    Commuting petrol £90

    Total £846.

I don't have any life insurance and it is not a requirement for my mortgage.

No Sky or other TV package because it's waste of money.

  • Thanks for all the answers, it's really helpful to see other people's figures.

Do you think £53 a month is a lot for water then? We already have a meter, although they haven't been to read it for some time - maybe I need to submit a reading!

Nope, nothing dodgy going on at mine re that usage of gas and electricity! But it seems high compared to all yours, esp considering I'm out all day. Better look into it.

Above is total for both. Disadvantage of having latina wife is international calls and very warm home. Also effectively self employed and so high cost on the insurance fronts for income protection etc

The cost of water does seem high for one person. There's 2 of us, bath/shower every day, washing machine on about 4 times a week, dishwasher on every other day, water the garden when necessary (when none left in water butt) and our monthly payment is just under £30.

It might help to look at the threads in the water forum.
