For a 5 bed semi with only two adults?

Ok so a five bed house is bigger than average, but it can't be that much bigger.

    8000 miles a month? Crikey.

So you must be getting around 55mpg. I guess that's the difference between a diesel and lazer's petrol car.

Sorry H, I missed your post before I posted mine. But I think CK is getting about 40mpg, not so good for a diesel.

I have found this thread very interesting, showing how people are paying vastly different amounts. E.g. For water £11 for 4 people up to £53 for 1

    Is this for real?

How do you pay so much Council tax? This must be the UK's highest!

Annual fuel bill of £2880? Wow!

How do you get water for 4 people for £132 per year? I'm sure all us moneysavers would love to know this.

    Fred

    £300 diesel a week got me that's around 3000 miles a week.

Why? Sounds about right to me.

200 miles a week, 800 miles a month. At 35mpg that is about 104 litres of petrol. At 135p/l that works out to £140 a month.

Wgat I've omitted is that we paid £603k for the house

And sorry, I've calculated that on a weekly.

I do a lot of international driving for work; the car gets changed every year to reflect the mileage I do, but am hoping to get same-ish MPG from a 2.2 XF Sportbrake as I do from a 2.2 S-Max.

    Sorry, £11/week.

We've got a large, expensive (band F, do not the highest) house. We paid )603k for it

It works out expensive, but I wouldn't change it for the world!

£426.54 for a band F property a month sounds rather a lot. Which council charges that much? You want to move. It's £173.44 in an affluent south coast borough.

Are you sure it is not £426.54 quarterly?

When did you buy your house?

In England, homes are put into a valuation band based on their value on 1 April 1991, not what the property is worth today, or what the purchase value was when it was bought. In Wales, homes are put into a valuation band based on their value in 2003, not what the purchase value was when they were bought.

I've been here a bit too long to be one!

I do admit a mistake! I had a quick look at online banking, and the rate in question is for two properties (which are normally paid together at the council offices); one band D, one band F.

    Here's our local rates.

Hey CKhalvashi, why don't you take a deep breath and re-post your monthly outgoings when you have got the real numbers? Hope it will be of benefit to yourself to know what goes out of your bank account for basic living expenses ;-) .

I know it's often difficult to stay on top of your finances when you have a busy job - -- but there's [almost] nothing more important than being in control of your finances.
