  • Fascinating.

    Ours is dire.

3 Bed Semi. One child. One on the way.

    Mortgage: £750 (paying arrears)
    Council Tax: £130

    Water: £20
    Electricity: 130 (also paying arrears)
Oil: £130 (set aside for big purchase)
    Phone/Broadband: £40
    Sky: £40
    Home Ins: £30
    Car Ins: £30
Creditors: £150 (because we were stupid in the past)

    Groceries: £60 (although it's usually £30ish)

    One on the way.

    Wise? Given the circumstances?
  • In your o.p you say "only me" then "Do you think £53 a month is a lot for water then? We already have a meter".
However, £53 does seem excessively high. I pay £10/month, metered, sole occupant in a three bedroom semi.
Gas and electricity, as a comparison, I pay £85/month for both, just reduced from £92/month and £300 in credit at the moment. I suspect a further reduction is needed?!

LOL, I am used to saying 'we' because I used to have a friend living with me - and my two cats are like family, so 'we' still applies!
  • Really appreciate all the replies, as people have said, this is both fascinating and useful! :-)
  • My monthly household bills for a 2 bed house with myself and one other are:

    Council Tax £105
Gas & Electricity £86 (Hopefully soon to decrease as I am replacing my ancient, inefficient boiler)
    Water £32 (unmetered)
    TV licence £12
    Broadband + landline £18

I also have personal bills for contents insurance (around £10 per month), mobile phone (£27 per month), pet insurance (£18 per month for two dogs) and my share of the mortgage/buildings insurance (£350 per month).

This brings my personal monthly spend for household bills to around £530 per month. Then of course there are car/fuel costs, groceries etc!

Is there any chance people could put what area they are from? then we can compare the prices in different areas.

    thanks
It's not area-dependent... it's lifestyle dependent too. What one considers 'normal use' is exceptionally high use to another.

Yes. Thank you. Our earnings do cover the above - they just need to be organised correctly.
