Lol! Thats exactly how I feel when people ask for things that 'Must be in excellent condition'.

LOL yes I feel like doing that too - want a lap op ? get yourself to PC World or Comet :D

Please stop using the word "of" when you actually mean "have" - it's damned annoying

If I'm giving stuff away - such as a perfectly good microwave, recently - I'd personally prefer it to go to someone who's struggling to buy one and having trouble making ends meet, rather than someone who can easily buy one. It's personal choice - we give things to whoever we wish.
My gripe is with the people who clearly gather up stuff to sell on Ebay and carboots ( a few in our group have been caught out that way), and those who are terribly selective about what they want, advertising for goods which must be in immaculate condition etc. As you said yourself, "people seem to forget its about recycling and not a free personal shopping website"

It doesn't really bother me who takes it. What I do hate is people who just take it without a word of thanks. It makes me feel like running after them and taking it back.

I think you can usually tell who are the carbooter/ebay types (well, in my group you can) as they tend to be quite rude when replying to your offered post. Like i'm going to give my items to someone who just replies 'Leave it outside and i'll collect it tomorrow'...... hell no!!

If I was running a freecycle group, I'd delete posts requesting pristine goods like that!

Ditto and that's what the mods here should be doing

I had one of those!! He had the cheek also to say that, if he didn't like it, he would 'dispose of it' for me - yeah, at the local carboot. Grrrr !! Needless to say, he didn't get the item.

  • I just saw this one..........

"I am looking for a laptop if anyone has one taking up space. I will be
having surgery soon and will not be able to get to my desktop for a
    while."

I think it was the "taking up space" part that made me laugh!!!!

So I replied to the mod who rejected my offered post as below and let them know how I felt and how strongly I felt amd guess what ...

The haven't had the courage or the decency to reply :confused:

    I'm speechless

So several of us here are fed up of all the posts that are allowed through even though against freecycles own rules (often for high value items) ,,, then, on posting an offered I get this back from a moderator after my post has been REJECTED

    Hi there,

Your local group is now abc Freecycle...
    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/abcfreecycle/

Please can we ask that you join and post to your local group first. If
necessary, you can post to xyz Freecycle after your post has
    been
on the abc list for a minimum of 3 days. In the event of this
please add the line "previously posted on abc Freecycle" to the
    bottom of your post.

    Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Oh yes just ****ing fantastic that isn't it - oh and how nice that they apologise

Oh and btw I have been a member of abc group and posted there 1st about 2 and a half days ago      (with no takers - well it's not a laptop or digicam I'm offering)

So one can ask to have one's whole home AND that of a relative furnished, one can ask for a car, one can ask for a narrow boat - but try and offer something and it's rejected.

I cannot put into words how I feel about freecycle at the moment, well I could but not ones that i would want to type here (and they'd be censored by the site anyway)

One very, very, very unhappy soon likely to be ex freecycler

when i put a wanted ad for a bath (ours cracked!) i had FIVE emails from people who had a spare one in their shed/garage !!!!!?????!!!!
Every day above ground is a good one ;)
  • I've only just joined freecycle but I think it's fab so far :D Gave away a huge pile of old books, habitrail and a fishtank and everyone was lovely about it. The someone happened to offer a radiator on the day my parents were going out to buy one and we got it! I think it's a lovely idea. I am amused by the amount of requests for laptops though ^_^
