Gave away a huge pile of old books, habitrail and a fishtank and everyone was lovely about it. The someone happened to offer a radiator on the day my parents were going out to buy one and we got it! I think it's a lovely idea. I am amused by the amount of requests for laptops though ^_^
Laptops yes, and MP3 players, and IPods, caravans, and even cars......0 -
and todays gem,any unwanted gold and/or silver jewellery wanted, anything considered.0

I've used freecycle quite a bit recently after taking down a 1960s leanto conservatory / greenhouse, to give away the old glass window panes, bricks, a load of rubble, plastic roofing, broken paving slabs, and wood. It would have cost me about £140 for a skip. Freecyclers took it all away for nothing, and it kept it all out of landfill. It's a great site for getting rid of what is essentially rubbish to me, and allowing that stuff to be reused. I see the plastic roofing and glass being used on an allotment when I walk in to town, and sometimes speak to the old guy who collected it. Hopefully he'll donate some of his summer glut of veggies to me later in the year! I would have never have spoken to him without freecycle.
As for the stupid want ads, I just ignore them. I don't get individual messages or digests, and only look online, so they are easy to skip past.0 -
I have been very lucky on Freecycle and have met some lovely people into the bargain. I guess you have to be realistic and expect some things will not be in 100% condition but I'm usually happy providing the person offering has been upfront about it. I do laugh at some of the more outlandish requests and the odd winge monger and moaner, but you find them everywhere!
I wish I could donate more, but do whenever I can. All in all a great idea and a nice warm feeling to know that on the whole people are generous and keep giving.....I'm off to hug a tree now folks .....lol :j :j :j0 -

I think it was the "taking up space" part that made me laugh!!!!
Having said that, there was a laptop offered on my local freecycle yesterday. The poster has replied again today saying that he has had over 100 enquiries and was answering questions about spec and software etc! :rolleyes:0 -
Today's local gem of the day - some folk have queer ideas....
wanted: excercise bike
my daughter is going off with the school and needs to practice cycling
but she is too young to be let out on her own so I thought it would be
safer if she practised at home.

Interesting read this thread as I am a co-founder of efreeko and I also was an active freecycler - the whole reason we set up efreeko was because of alot of the problems we were having with our local freecycle group, and the amount of emails we were recieving, hopefully we are creating a better way.0 -
