There is no group called abcfreecycle. Please make sure you typed the web address correctly. If you have done so, the group may no longer exist.

I used to like Freecycle, but my local one is now pretty much full of 'wanted' notices - and there's been a wanted recently for a caravan!!
I gave away a basic microwave on freecycle recently - I expect it ended up on a stall at a car boot or as a 'for sale' ad. in the local paper. I had naively thought I maybe was helping someone out, but the new owner called to collect it in a swish 4 wheel drive number, and I could see all sorts of stuff on the back seat that had no doubt been collected that day.
I'm giving it a miss in future - have given away lots and only ever got one 'wanted' - and never a 'thank you'

HOWEVER !!!!
About 20 been offered on my groups in the last 4 months, 3 of them by the same person !
I'd guess that I've seen about 50 cars given away in the last 18 months.
A caravan was offerred on 1 of my local groups yesterday, and it's not the first time.
yes thats fine,if people want to give them away, i've no problem, and you are lucky to live in an area that offers these sorts of things. offering them is one thing, asking for them when they really aren't a necessary to anyones life is where i have a problem.0 -
............., asking for them when they really aren't a necessary to anyones life is where i have a problem.
Can't see how a dozen concrete slabs or a fishtank or a TV are "necessary to anyone's life" but people ask for these.
I presume you think that they shouldn't?There are 10 types of people in the world. ‹(•¿•)›(11)A104.28S94.98O112.46N86.73D101.02(12)J130.63F126.76M134.38A200.98M156.30J95.56J102.85A175.93

A while back, I was getting rid of some old computer parts. I found a charity that was recycling computer bits for use in third world countries, so I posted a message on Freecycle offering to collect others' bits to take with me. The response was pretty good, and people were happy to offer their stuff for a good cause.
I dont think I'd do it again, as it cost me a lot in time and petrol... I think I must have driven about 80 miles collecting the various things.
I think Freecycle has its uses. I dont use it as much now, mainly because I think that anything of value that I offer, will be sold on by some greedy guts. I usually offer stuff that is of little value, but could be useful.... boxes of pens, for which I got several requests from people who would pass them onto their childrens' schools.

I think the point is that freecycle is about keeping things off the rubbish tip. Things like concrete slabs and fishtanks are the sort of things that people tend to throw out without a second thought. In fact, i offered some concrete slabs yesterday. They were in horrible condition but people wanted them for shed bases. A few years ago we would have taken them straight down the tip.
Asking for things like MP3 players, Brand new furniture and fully working cars is not really what freecycle is about. People seem to forget its about recycling and not a free personal shopping website. What the Deuce?0 -

Just seen someone on my freecycle group asking for a lounge carpet - must be in excellent condition (no stains or holes etc), mustn't be green or patterned, ideally beige, apricot or coffee (light) coloured !!! What a cheek. I'm tempted to email the person and give them the local carpet warehouse address !!
