And nobody is speaking down to anyone, just asking for some manners and some thanks for the things they have been given. After my last clearout I swore that anything I had to get rid of would now go to a charity shop where at least they could say "Thank you" on receiving it rather than grunting.
The last thing I was looking to gift I got two replies, neither of which said please, thank you or showed any manners at all, neither answered a simple question I asked in my offered so I ended up giving it to a neighbour instead - they were very grateful.
On the flipside - I recently have taken things from two people - both of whom I thanked profusely at the time (one of whom I had a long chat with - and they said if I needed any help with anything to not hesitate to contact them by email or phone !!) and also an electrical item I gifted a while back the person was very, very polite and a real sweetie.
See this throws into sharp contrast the ones who show a lack of manners.
The above also shows that we regulars on here do also post about our positive experiences , I have several times, and support the concept.
If you maybe read more of the thread you could have seen this for yourselves.
We just wish:
1) People would be a little friendlier and polite
2) People wouldn't take advantage of other folks generosity.Hate and I do mean Hate my apple Mac Computer - wish I'd never bought the thing

Please stop using the word "of" when you actually mean "have" - it's damned annoying :mad:0 -

Oh yes, I got 2!Dear members,
Please refer to rule 2 :-
2) Respect your Fellow Freecycle Members.
This means that e-mails sent to fellow members deemed to be offensive
or inappropriate, will result in your return to moderation status.Members,
Please note, that as previously stated, all duplicate WW posts will be
deleted without comment.
Those are the only two I have recieved, and oddly enough both posted after you discovered this thread. Even stranger neither mentions the word Manners.
Or is there another which I havent got?0 -

well as such is life, I have lost count of the amount of times I have held doors open for people with prams and been given a glare for my trouble and the times I have stopped and let an old person pass by and they have looked at me like I am going to mug them. I always say please and thank you but that is maybe due to the fact I am quite a confident person and am not shy, I know often people mistake peoples unconfidence for ill manners.
Like I said it is hardly the hight of manners to quote people and make them look thick or greedy and to post just to mock them and to get a cheap laugh, very childish!0 -
And on cue our group has 2 posts which are genuine wants. One needing a cot for her child because he is sleeping in a playpen and one from a lady homeschooling her child and looking for science eqipment.
These are genuine posts asking for things that would make a difference in their lives.
The flipside is the lady who just asked for a Playstation 2 and an incar CD player. Neither of which I deem to be essential items!
For me freecycle should be about people in need. People who dont have a lot. Not about people who decide on a whim they need a CD player in their car!0 -
I have to say the people I have met off freecycle have all had perfect manners and been very pleasant and aminable0

I think you are now missing the point
Freecycle is not about need but about stopping landfill and saving the environment.0 -

I was actually alerted of this thread by another member, after the admin posts were sent. Hence why I am a new member!!
Some of our members wish to support the group and not critise!!
If you are not prepared to contact the Mods of comment in the cafe group, then your opinion is not taken seriously.
Why hide if you have a valid opinion?

Im pleased you have had a pleasant experience and that the people you have met have been nice.
But please do not blame me for being dissilusioned when I have waited in all day for someone to call that never did, when I have put items as taken for people that never reply to me again, when I have handed £200 worth of computer to someone who couldnt even say thank you, when I have had emails from members asking me "not to bother" posting items as they will take whatever I have directly.
Surely even you can see how this would be very annoying.0 -
I think we are talking to a brick wall Tamsin,
good work today as always to you and all of the mods. Keep freecycling about the environmental issue and not about who, what and why.0
