No, I know that - I mean specific to this ISA. Can I put more money in this ISA this tax year?

Each ISA is allocated a tax year and an allowance. So the one you have relates to 2006/2007 with a maximum allowance of £3,000 for that year. After 4 April, or whenever it was, no further deposits could be made into that account.

If you haven't used up your 2007/2008 allowance but you have opened a Tax Beater ISA for that year, you can top it up to £3,000. This is also the case for ISAs opened with other providers.

But you can't open a fresh Barclays Tax Beater ISA for 2007/08, if you haven't done so already - it has been withdrawn. And you can't move the money in your 2006/2007 ISA into a 2007/2008 one, even if you wanted to.

Three months later and I have a letter saying both accounts are now closed, along with a cheque for £1.03 (the £1 I tried to open the account with, plus interest). The letter says that I am able to open a 2007/8 ISA elsewhere so I shall be keeping this safe in case HMRC try to take tax from the Egg ISA I opened in the middle of all this...

    Good luck to all!

i been thinking of u suze, nice 2 c u posting on here again, bet u wish u had been more patient with barclays, nearly 1% higher than egg, those who had given barclays 3000 have had the interest backdated to start of tax year, and those like me ( and u originally) who gave barclays nominal 1.00 opening cheque and complained that they werent able to put the other 2999 in until most the way through May due to barclays slowness in opening the accounts have had the interest on that 2999 backdated to start of tax year.

my 2999 was in scarborough reg saver ( 6.3%) until 20th may so effectively earnt 12.61% during the period 6th april-20th may :j

    Hello!

Surprised (pleasantly of course!) that you remembered me!

To be honest I'm not fussed about missing out on the interest - the whole thing was such a catalogue of errors that I'm glad to be shot of them. I feel quite nervous about the idea of giving them any of my money in future - I'm just not confident that they know their !!!!!$ from their elbows over there.

Is anyone still waiting for a resolution or is everyone sorted now?

i opened my cash beater ISA around the 15th of april. at the start of june, i received a letter giving my account number. at the start of july, i received a phone call asking if i had receieved the welcome pack yet. i hadnt. it is now 4 months since i applied for the account, and all i have had is one letter.

is anyone else in the same boat? ive got their complaint details today and am in the process of drafting a letter. i find it very hard to believe that it takes 4 months to issue a standardised "welcome to barclays. we're pleased to tell you that £x has been transferred to your account. here's your welcome pack" letter

I had my welcome letter finally arrive after complaining in the branch and twice by e-mail and phone. When it arrived it still stated that it had been opened a month after I deposited the money, so I'm going to be calling up tomorrow to confirm that the interest is being backdated to April as originally promised, and reiterating my point that I'm incredibly annoyed at the huge delay and STILL haven't had an apology! If they haven't backdated the interest, I'm going to be even more annoyed that them!

what made me laugh is that while i was complaining in branch, they started enquiring about who i currently banked with.

my curt reply told him that considering barclays current form under no uncertain terms would i even contemplate giving them any more of my busines, and he was wasting his breath trying to sell me anything!

Both hubby and I opened our Tax Beater Isa in April and had a letter about 5 weeks later with the "Welcome Pack". Nothing was mentioned about how much we had opened the account with. We have since deposited to the maximum by BACS.

However, son opened one a couple of weeks later than us and he has not received a letter or welcome pack yet. He managed to get his account number and managed to make a second deposit in cash over the counter.

Today he went to the branch to deposit some more cash and they told him they could not accept cash. He asked for a print out of the entries into his account and was told he could not have one (although the chap had it up on his screen). I couldn't understand this as both hubby and I have print outs from the same branch

On his behalf I rang the 0800 number mentioned in another thread on here and spoke to a young man who confirmed that cash could not be paid in over the counter. When asked why I was told it was to preserve the tax free status of the account :confused: , I said considering he only had £500 in at the moment and wanted to put another £400 now it wasn't really a problem.

I asked how was he supposed to add to his account and he said transfer from another Barclays account. I said he didn't have one and was told that he could open one, whereupon I said that my son didn't want to open another account with Barclays but would like to pay into his ISA. I was told he could send a cheque in. I told him he had not yet received his welcome pack so really had no "official" details about his account. He made no comment about this nor when I told him my son had been refused a print out of his account entries.

I enquired about BACS and he repeated he could send a cheque in  . I repeated my query about BACS and was eventually told this would be OK however I got the feeling that he would have preferred it if my son didn't do a BACS transfer.
