At this point the fun starts. She went into a Barclays Branch to get some more paying in slips to be greeted with "We don't stock them, you'll have to contact our central supplies." She finally got through to them to be told that they don't send out paying in slips for the Tax Beater ISA. Their suggestion was that she send a cheque to a specified address. No receipt would be sent out to her! Monkeys!
I was told that if I wanted to put regular payemnts in I needed to set up a standing order from my current bank account. So I did this online through my LloydsTSB account. As I can cancel standing orders at any time, I'm thinking that perhaps this may be a way of transferring money for your friend - even if it's just the once.0 -
There we go then....... I'll shove my doubts in my pipe n smoke 'em........

Well, I was contacted again by Barclays complaints department with the following letter:Dear <removed>,
In our previous letter we promised to keep you updated on the progress of our investigation.
We are currently awaiting information from other areas in order for us to progress your complaint. When we have this information, we will be able to provide you with a full response to your complaint.
I remain committed to resolving your complaint as quickly as I can and will contact you again by <INSERT DATE>. If you would like to speak to me in the meantime, please call me on .
Thank you for your continued patience.
Yours sincerely,
I kid you not, this letter actually included the phrase "<INSERT DATE>" and missed out on putting in the contact number. Frankly I'm less than impressed that the person handling my complaint didn't even notice this problem somewhere between printing it out and sending it, especially since they signed it.
Needless to say, they'll be getting a call from me tomorrow with the (I think fairly reasonable) request that they pick a date that they WILL have this problem solved by. 5 months is a ridiculous length to have to wait for even the first sign of confirmation of an account being opened!I am a Chartered Financial Planner

they seem to be using the need to get info from another dept excuse to lots of people, not inserting the date shows the "holding responses" to be the sham they are, after a few of these they will tell u of your right to contact the ombudsman because they failed to answer within a certain time. im just gonna keep waiting till they have all the info they need from another of their depts0 -

Tax Beater Cash ISA
Monthly interest (effective from 01/08/07)
Sweet. Ignoring the time it took to get this set up (& thankfully I did it with the full amount at opening) it has gone very well taking this ISA for me & I guess many others, paid by cheque which was not cashed for a month so 10% on 3k for a month when the interest was backdated & 2 matching boe intrest rate increases! Still wont stop me taking it away come next april (or will that be dragged out months as well)??? but for the time being am happy to have this isa.0 -
I'm thinking of calling them tomorrow and telling them that if I don't have something a little more solid in 2 weeks, I'll contact the Financial Ombudsman Service and ask them to step in. After all, this is £3000 of my money that they're essentially telling me "we don't know where it is" at the moment!I am a Chartered Financial Planner

I think he means that he has had the interest backdated to when the account was opened with Barclays, but also managed to earn an additional 3.5% net interest because of the delay between handing them the cheque and the funds going out of his account. Essentially earning interest twice on the same bit of money for a short while.I am a Chartered Financial Planner

I applied for a Tax Beater in April with £10, to test the water, in July I found out that they had given me an ordinary isa instead, after complaining they said that they couldn't convert it to a Tax Beater because of Tax laws, no offer of compensation.Yesterday I spoke to one of their managers and he said they would give me the difference in interest on any money I put into the cash isa, when I put any money in he wants me to ring him, he gave me a direct number, and he will ajust interest.Still no offer of compensation.I said that because of their incompatence and all the messing about I am going to have to do I want compensating, his manager is going to ring me today.
Should I just got to Ombudsman ?0
