If you can demonstrate genuine circumstances why a UK resident has not been allocated an NI no, then a branch can proceed. But if an NI no has been assigned, not having it 'on you' or not being able to find it won't be accepted as excuses.

i really can't see why they need to know salary details etc.

it's not like they're lending you money!!

if they ask me i'll just say i don't wish to disclose that information and i can't see why it's relevant.

They actually already knew that from my most recent barclaycard application (and which I have just closed at end of 0% offer), but at least I was able to update their records with my payrise :)

If it means they give me a better credit limit on my 3rd Barclaycard, then I'm happy. If I start getting random sales calls for products that are irrelevant, then I will opt out of the marketing.

In answer to the National Insurance question, every ISA I've ever opened has required my NI number - I suspect it is an Inland Revenue requirement so that they can ensure that people don't subscribe to multiple Mini Cash ISAs in the same tax year.

Well, I went into today to trace my 3k cheque.....
This being the one that they said the couldn't accept, because the ISA hadn't been entered onto the system at the branch....
It had been sent back already..
However, he didn't do anymore clicking n clackin on his keyboard today, than he did last time either....
However, he did wander off and I saw him take a photo copy of my ID...
I think this is the real reason it was returned to the branch....
He said they'd destroyed it all, at head office. Yah right....

Sounds like he'd !!!!!!ed up to me....
"If it was my fault I'd tell you. I checked with head office, they said it didn't need to be entered on our system here, in the branch"

Also, the website says that one can view details of the ISA online..... However it also says you can get through to a branch. You can't......

Still dated for the 22nd though. I'll double check on Thursday

I found the branch excellent it was only when I enquired about the status at one of their infamous call centres did the heat get turned up.

I advised my 18 year-old dd to open a Barclays ISA. Two weeks ago she applied on-line and printed the form, as required, and took it to the local branch. However today she has received her form back in the post with a letter from Barclays saying the date of birth on her application form is "different to the one we hold on our system" and that if she does not supply them with her correct date of birth they will cancel her ISA. She has never had an dealings with Barclays in the past so how can they already have her date of birth in their system? Any ideas? The date on the form is correct BTW.

Show them the date on her passport/driving licence. They can hardly argue with that.

Thanks for your reply jem, but she used her passport (which they photocopied) for ID. But our query is, how can they already have her DOB on their system?

Did she ever have any accounts with the Woolwich? They became part of Barclays.

    No, only the Nationwide.

Could it be the Electoral Roll that Barclays are referring to as "on our system" (as in our method, rather than our Customer Record)?

Who knows - Barclay's efficiency no doubt.

The only thing you can do is go back into a branch with the passport again and ask them how it can be possibly wrong and where exactly have they got their details from?
