Nah, in my experience bank folk rarely know what they're blathering about. I'd take it with a pinch of salt until you see something on these here boards

Wow, how did you swing that?? I'll have to try and remember to tune in!
SuzeCheck out the Today programme on Radio 4 tomorrow morning about 8.30am. There will be a report about this (including (hopefully) an interview about my experiences opening a Barclays ISA - see page 2 of thread!)I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Savings & Investments, Small Biz MoneySaving and House Buying, Renting & Selling boards. Is there any sort of patterns to the problems she keeps having? If so, do you think someone may have stolen her ID to get a Barclaycard and used a different date of birth or something, hence the discrepancy?
SuzeShe took her passport and a Nationwide bank statement. She has had problems opening several different accounts so is getting used to bank mistakes and inefficiency but that's the subject of another future thread.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Savings & Investments, Small Biz MoneySaving and House Buying, Renting & Selling boards. Did my application today - went into branch with completed form, passport, council tax bill and cheque. Cashier checked that I wanted 07/08, took copies of my documents and explained it would be sent off for processing.
In and out within 5 minutes - good experience so far. Wonder how long it will take until I hear back?Back on the DFW Wagon:
CC - £3,300 on 0% til 04/2020
CC - £4,500 on 0% til 02/2019
Loan - £12,063.84 as at 4/1/180 -

There is no pattern that I can see, but strangely she has received some phishing emails in the last few days: several from Paypal saying someone has accessed her Paypal account from abroad (but she has no Paypal account) and an email purporting to come from a bank (not Barclays) where she has recently opened a current account stating that someone is attempting to access her account. However the email is not addressed to her personally, only to "******** Bank Customer" and is sent to her Hotmail address which is not the email address that she opened the account with. So we assume it is a scam. She will try to sort all this out ASAP but she doesn't need all the hassle while she is hard at work on her 'A' levels. Unfortunately I can't help her much with this because I know these organisations will only deal with her in person.0 -
Hi all, went into Barclays today to open an ISA. Talk about the Spanish Inquisition!!! I have never been asked so many questions about every aspect of my life and income and "outcome", they practically wanted to know what pension plan I had set up for my dog! Anway I was also "forced" to open a current account with them. I have an account at another bank. I hope it was worth it, they know more about me now than anybody else on this earth!!!!!:smileyheaMagenta0

You must certainly did not have to open account with them to qualify for their tax beater isa. I must say when I went into a branch they were excellent and did not try to get me to buy other products. However when I rang their savings centre to find out whether my isa application had been processed it was then they wanted to know how much I took home each month. I told the advisor I would not tell her until she told me how much she took home. She implied it was not my business and I implied likewise it was none of hers.0 -
That they'll accept your application for this year. Did they stamp your cheque at the branch? AFAIK, the ISA allowance is use or it lose it - and if you don't apply on or before April 5th, you've lost it...

Well, I'm new to this forum lark but a regular to the website and I wish now I'd had a look at this before. I applied for the cash beater ISA at Barclays on the 22nd March, downloaded a form from the internet and took it into the local branch with my ID and a cheque. All fine! But its now the 5th April, and I haven't had anything from them and the cheque hasn't been cashed!! So looks like my 2006-7 allowance won't be used up.
