i went into my local Barclays (for work) although there was a method in my madness, i went into the branch around 4.40pm
bearing in mind they close at 5.00pm, it left no time for them to grill me on the in & outs of my life
RESULT, handed form in they checked it over tried to get me to have a current account (turned it down) told them i just wanted the ISA and nothing else, no junk mail etc
well happy0 -
That's what I did
Not holding my breath over getting a confirmation letter from them any time soon though

that's helpful, thanks! I was thinking of going to the barclays in Nottm city centre and if any hassle there, I'll make a special trip to West Bridgford!LankyMoneySaver wrote: »I went into my local branch (Beeston, Nottingham) yesterday to try and open one for this year. Anyway though I'd give them another chance before I cut my losses and paid into last years A&L to avoid missing the end of tax year cut off. Went to another branch (West Bridgford, Nottingham) at lunch today. Had to wait for a few mins at the desk, they took my ID, copied it, put the details from the printed form off the website into the computer, took my cheque and I was done. In and out in under 20 mins including parking the car! No questions about income etc. and they didn't try and get me to open a current account with them either.

I applied in branch about a week and a half ago. I didn't have my National Insurance number with me (mislaid some paperwork), so I took the form away to complete and post. I posted this off about a week ago, together with a cheque for £3000. I'm hoping that tomorrow I will see that my current account will £3000 down, because I had to move savings over to the current account specially for this purpose. Though I fear there will be delays, and I will have to chase Barclay's about the account opening.
If the egg isa was around at the time I applied for this Barclay's one I'd have the egg one everytime. Just my experience so far0 -
Well I have just printed off the form and will take it into Barclays in the next day or so. I so wanted to go with NS&I as I hoped they would extend their base rate guarantee which would mean it would be quite a good long term ISA without having to faf every year transferring to new providers.
Anyhow, just one question. At the end of the form on the Barclays site it says 'for the tax year commencing 6th April 2007 and each subsequent year until further notice'. Anything to worry about?0 -

No, its nothing to worry about. It just means that if you wanted to keep using the ISA for each tax year after the 2007/08 one you could do so without having to apply again. Of course, it is only competitive for this tax year so it doesn't really matter. Please call me 'Kazza'.0 -
As an exitsing Barclays customer ( ), I thought I would haveno trouble opening one for the 2007/2008 tax year.
I completed their form on-line, printed it off and took it to a Barclays branch on Thrusday. I also made sure that there was at least £3k in my current account. The mistake I made was not seeing them date my application!!!.
Needless to say, the £3k is still sitting in my current account earning next to nothing in interest - and there is no sign of an ISA having been opened
The question is, what do I do now? Wait for a week or so? Or cancel the application, move the money somewhere else and apply again later when the 2006/2007 rush is over?
Any views?

I wish I had read this forum before I went to my local Barclays today. I had the form, cheque and all the id with me; the bank was empty with three cashiers available. I was told I had to make an appointment to have an interview. I only want to open an account, not apply for a job! The cashier said that the interview was not needed earlier this month for people who were opening accounts at the last minute for last tax year but for the current year I must have an interview.
I told them that if they did not want my business I would take it elsewhere and walked out. Tomorrow I have to go to another town nearby so might try there. Forty years ago I had an account with Barclays which was a nightmare. It looks as if things have not changed.0 -

They have not yet taken the funds (paid by cheque), and I am an existing barclays customer so provided them no extra ID.
Is anyone else in the same position as me still waiting? Has anyone had their 07/08 account opened yet?
What, in peoples experience, was the turn around time between posting the application and getting some form of confirmation of receipt (beit funds taken, or reply letter)?
Thanks.
Edit: I see people are still waiting to hear about their 06/07 allowance... so no doubt they are getting priority. Think I'll call them next week if I hear nothing. Must be patient...
I posted off an application on behalf of my partner as soon as the ISA was announced. He too has a current account with them.
Not heard a thing so far, and because it is in my partner's name, no doubt I can't ring up and query it0
