I have been thinking of getting an ISA but the only thing that puts me off the Barclays one is that you can't manage it on the internet - it is only by phone or in person. As I don't get out much I would rather be able to manage it online - any ideas of which one would be the best online ISA? Sorry I am new to this and a bit nervous about getting one and where?!

Cheers for that, in my haste I hadn't noticed that you couldn't manage the Barclay's ISA online either. In this day and age, I just naturally assumed that with Barclay's one would be able to....

If you need/desire the ability to manage your ISA online then it's got to be ING Direct
From what I can gather, it has to be FUNDED, rather than merely OPENED, before the 5th of April, if you want it in the year 2006/07, however a DD (which is how they do it) from your own account, should do it in time..

do you have to provide ID?

i can't see it says to on the form?

i'm pretty sure i opened my A&L one online without having to provide any?

Yes but you'd already be a customer, so they wouldn't need it...
The irony is that when I first opened the Barclay's one, in a branch, although I had my ID with me, they didn't ask for it........

    Similar to yours.
Opened on 22 March and stamped. 2nd April, thought I'd check up on it.
Went into same branch that I'd opened it in. Holborn.
That's right, no trace of it on their system.... He said he'd chase and rang me back...
Bare in mind, they've got a cheque of mine for 3K, here.
That's right I've got to go back in tomorrow, all ID again (I don't carry my passport about with me!) and start all over again................
I expected a delay, although if Barclay's don't have the systems in place to cope with the demand, then god help any one else, but not this...

Can't run off to ING now, cos I've got to cancel the cheque..... Only way I'll get the cancellation fee back for the cheque, is to (hopefully) have it refunded by Barclay's....

Moral of the story ..A stamped form, with a receipt, doth not a successfully opened ISA make.....

Check your applications folks....... Incompetent bunch of b**tards

My Barclays Cash Beating ISA appeared in my list of accounts when I went online yesterday. So it looks like it can be managed online.

Haven't recieved any paperwork from Barclays though !!

It can be managed online - but you can't actually have online banking unless you have a current account. So most non-Barclays customers won't be able to manage this one online.

I still haven't opened mine, keep forgetting to e-mail my form to myself at work to print off! Went into two branches today to pick up a hard copy and couldn't find one... the places were so depressing and reminded me of why I left in the first place

I'll probably wait until the rush is over, at this rate. And a possible base rate rise next week.

    Hi all,

I just dropped by Barclay Woolwich branch this afternoon with the filled-in 2007-08 form, an utility bill, a cheque and driving license. Queuing in for a while and then waited for 5 minutes for a front desk lady to check things and produce certified copies of my paper work. Done without any question :A (never banked with Barclay before)

She told me that the form will be processed and all relevant information (a/c number, sort-code, etc.) will arrive my home by post sometime next week. The cheque will be cashed in ASAP but the fund will be credited against my next year allowance.

She couldn't give me a receipt for my big cheque, but assured my that it will always be in safe hands as they use their internal post system to deliver my stuff to their ISA office.

So quick. So pleased. Nothing to complain. Happy day for me today :j

    Cheers,

Well, I opened mine (for 2006-2007) in a branch (Holborn) at the beginning of last week, took about 10 minutes, funded with £10 from a Barclays current account (probably why I wasn't asked lots of questions and didn't need any ID. Also, the woman who opened it just entered the info from the form that I'd filled in online and printed).

Didn't get a receipt and was a bit worried that I hadn't received anything in the post by today and I want to put some more money in it before the 5th, but I have just logged into my online banking to look at my current account and was surprised to see the Cash Beater ISA listed as a second account, with £10.01 in it (1p interest).

Perhaps I can't manage it online, but I can certainly see that it exists...hope this helps somebody.

It is two weeks now and Mrs Hound has been back to Barclays local branch three times with a wad of cash BUT they still cannot tell her the account number so she can top it up to the 3K limit for the 06/07 tax year.

    Original cheque still not cashed.

    Harry.

[Has the BBC got it in for Barclays ? Now s l a g g i n g off the bank in the "History of Slavery" series  ]

    My experience:

I completed my application form online, printed it off and took it in with my ID today, I queued at the counter and was told I needed to go downstairs as they couldn't do it there, so I was escorted downstairs, given a seat where I waited approx 5 minutes to see somebody.

Having read the experience of others on here I was fully expecting some commission hungry adviser to try and complete a full fact-find and try to sell me anything and everything.... however, they took my ID, copied it, pressed a few buttons gave me a receipt and I was out of there 15 minutes after arriving.

They did seem pretty busy, I guess the tax year is ending so they probably haven't got time to do much more than just process the app's. Or maybe it was the fact that I told them I worked for a competitor (I didn't mention that it was an IT role though).... ;)

Hmm, I did mine in branch a week and a half ago and the cheque still hasn't been processed (money still in current account). I am surprised others had their forms sent to the ISA office by internal mail - I was handed an envelope with my forms and cheque and told "there's a post box just down the high street"!! I can't go into the branch and ask if it is set up yet as I don't have an account number to give them!

Should I be worried about the cheque clearing before 5 April? Or will it count as a 06/07 ISA as long as all the docs are signed and sent in March?
If I had a pound for every time I didn't play the lottery...
