So now that the ISA is opened, how do I deposit more money in? Calling the helpline just gets me the usual "too busy to answer your calls"..

For those of you looking for timescales of how long these accounts take to open, my experience was:

April 7th, application and chq given to branch - advised that account would take 2-3 weeks, biz card of advisor and receipt was given along with invite to call her personally if I did not receive anything after 3 weeks.

    8th May, Chq cashed.

9th May, 'welcome pack' received with sort and account number, no confirmation of balance, opening date recorded as 30th April.

11th May, called 0800 number, pleasant lady Elizabeth Davies confirmed account opening date on system was 7th April and interest would be back dated.

She did not know how frequently I would receive a statement giving details of interest - she asked someone else - did not know either, recommended I called the ISA tel number as they would know. I haven't as based on this thread I do not think I'll get through.

Do any of you know how often statements are posted by snail mail? Or do I really have to open a current account and apply for online banking to find out how much interest I get each month ?

Hi ive read through some of them and am a little confused. Is it right that if my ISA account STILL hasnt been opened i can cancel it and then i can open a new one for this tax year with out penaltys elsewhere? Has anyone actually done this yet and what was the experience please?

  • Application form & cheque for £3000 handed in on 12th April at small local branch. Cheque cashed 16th May, still not received any paperwork (welcome pack?). Would never use Barclays again.

Have you already applied for a Tax Beater Cash ISA for the 2007/2008 Tax Year?
Due to a high demand for our Tax Beater Cash ISA, you may experience a delay in hearing from us. We are working very hard to ensure applications are processed as quickly as possible and interest calculations on your initial deposit will be backdated to the date we received your application - so you won’t miss out on a thing.

Applications received before 15 May 2007
You should receive notification of your account details by the end of June.

Want to top up your Tax Beater Cash ISA?
You can continue to make deposits into your Tax Beater Cash ISA, up to your tax free savings allowance of £3,000 for the current tax year.

If you want to add to your initial deposit but haven’t yet received through your account details, please call into any of our branches where we will be able to assist you to make your deposit. Deposits can be made by transfer from another Barclays personal current or savings account in your name or by cheque.

If you have received your account details you can add to your initial deposit by transfer from another Barclays personal current or savings account in your name at any of our branches, by phone and by post. Alternatively you can send us a cheque in the post using the freepost envelope provided in your Welcome Pack.

Its quite scary how we are all quite happy to bank with Barclays but yet have as much trust in them as we do dubyer :p

I'm not happy to bank with Barclays, I realised that they were an expensive bank to use over 10 years ago when they used to charge a monthly fee for internet banking. It wasn't until I moved to nationwide I then saw the true extent of how bad the customer service was. Opening up that ISA the other month was like a throwback to my sad old days of Barclays hell.

They really are a bunch of idiots. I'd rather write an email to them then phone their braindead call centres abroad.

I got my second pack today. Account was opened on 4th May... I asked for this account to be closed when I rang to complain, so it remains to be seen what will happen.
