I appreciate what you're saying but when you move house you have a million and one things to think of and whilst I think it's obvious you need to inform your bank etc of your new address, updating the tax office never occured to me.
Am I the odd one out here or have other money savers on here neglegted to inform the revenue of a change of address?
ive never informed IR of change of address, perhaps ive missed something my belief is that to the IR all u are is the NI number so when someone informs their employee/pension providor or DWP ( depending on their status) these notifications automatically update your NI number info and so IR would automatically be aware of current address details that relates to the NI number/name, perhaps im talking rubbish :rotfl:0 -
Barclays Shambles!
Back to the subject. I made an appointment to see someone to open a Barclays ISA, appointment was 26th March. Took all relevant ID, and paid cheques in. Didn't get a receipt ( was a bit frantic in the branch), and the cheques have still not been cashed. I wish I'd gone elsewhere.0 -
I called into my local branch this afternoon to see what was going on, as we have 4 cheques (2 either side of the tax year for myself and my wife) that haven't been cashed.
I got the usual response of "there's a backlog". He tried to look up my details but it gave nothing... so no account set up yet.
When I asked how much longer I would have to wait - he just shrugged his shoulders said he didn't know. He'd even applied for one himself and was clueless as to what had happened with that.
If this was an exercise in getting new customers, they've gone about it completely the wrong way IMO.0 -
I am feeling brave and decided to apply for Tax Beater ISA tomorrow. My printer is broken so I can't complete the application form online. Does anybody know if I can fill the application form in branch?
Many thanks:: No unapproved links in signatures please - MSE Forum Team ::0 -
Just take proof of ID, and your national insurance number, and you can do the rest in branch yes.
I opened mine and all was fine. The optional current account was mentioned, but was simply asked if I wanted it, yes or no (to which I said no), there was no attempt to sell me anything else, and although the screen had a box for income, the question was not asked, and was left blank.0 -
I spoke to them today and was also told that they have a backlog of applications. She did reassure me that all the interest will be backdated to the date stamp on the cheque I gave them, so I'm OK for now.0

Similar experience here. Went into the Canterbury branch on Tuesday 10 April to open a Tax Beater ISA but, as I'd half expected and understandably, no Personal Bankers had free appointments (the absence of an online application process is an indication of either an archaic bank or a desire to sell additional products). Returned two days later and completed the application within 30 minutes. The form I'd filled out online was redundant as I had to start the process again with the Barclays staff member. Reluctantly had to divulge my gross annual salary as part of the application but no hard sell of any other Barclays products. In hindsight the NS&I ISA would have been considerably less hassle but was, as others have been, seduced by the 6.5%. The Personal Banker I dealt with seemed slightly irritated by the additional work created by the Tax Beater ISA and confided that branch staff had not seen the extra business Barclays had hoped for, e.g. new current accounts, mortgages, and so on. As a result of this, I don't have a great deal of confidence in this product's future competitiveness so am prepared to transfer at the drop of a hat.

My own experience was great to be honest, went in (forgot my application form) so got another, which I filled in on my own, meanwhile counter staff photo copied all relevant details etc, and handled the cheque, walked out 7 minutes later :j No doubt I've forgotten something, things never usually happen that smoothly.0

and u now in the 2 week and probably growing backlog :j :rotfl: i did all that ( avoided seeing an advisor just handed everything in) in the 3rd week of march and since then am none the wiser0 -
I phoned them to have winge about why my cheque had not been cashed. The ISA dept number was engaged (under the strain) So I tried the normal banking number which in fact puts you through to Indian call centre.... Grrrrrrrrrrrr. After going through to India and explaining it all to them plus them giving me 1000 questions about banking they transferred me to the ISA dept. 20 mins on hold and then spoke to a lady in Newscastle. She siad they have a backlog of 60,000 applications. They will backdate interest. They had better i said.
I am tempted to forget this barclays fiasco and open one with Egg instead... but if they do get it open and backdated the Barclays rate is quite a bit better then Egg's. Hmmm what to do...0
