I had a phishing email that appeared to be from paypal claiming their had been many attempts to access my account so I needed to provide additional security data for it to be reactivted. I have never had a paypal account, I forwarded the email to paypal using an address on their website, they confirmed it was fraudlent, I assumed it was probably random.
....sorry I know this is supposed to be about barclay's ISA
yep they are random0 -
Well, it's not all bad, as the £3k was built up in the Halifax Regular Saver, but that matured on 27th March and is no longer getting 7%

£3k plus interest?! Very strange!

Two days ago, the full balance, plus the first interest payment was credited to one of his bank accounts and now we can't get through to Barclays on the ISA telephone number. It is constantly engaged and has been for over a day.

I went into the branch on the 7th April with all my paperwork to open an 07/08 ISA, no questions, photo copies were taken of my ID and docs. I had a receipt for my cheque and was given a business card from the advisor whome I spoke to with the invite to call her if I had not heard from the ISA office after 3 weeks.
She assured me interest would be backdated to the 7th, but I should not expect to hear anything for 3 weeks nor the cheque be cashed for 2 weeksHOW MUCH CAN YOU SAVE?: OLYMPIC CHALLENGE 2007BRONZE 10% SILVER 25% GOLD 50% PLATINUM 75%January 7%February 13%March 20%April 27%May 32%June 39%July 45%August 54%September 62%October 68%0 -
Well I have just printed off the form and will take it into Barclays in the next day or so. I so wanted to go with NS&I as I hoped they would extend their base rate guarantee which would mean it would be quite a good long term ISA without having to faf every year transferring to new providers.
Anyhow, just one question. At the end of the form on the Barclays site it says 'for the tax year commencing 6th April 2007 and each subsequent year until further notice'. Anything to worry about?
Well I have ripped up my opening form. Nipped into Barclays today in my lunch break and they were too busy and just wanted to arrange some sort of interview with them. I simply cannot be bothered with that. So have just opened the NS&I Direct ISA which took about 4 minutes. They may only pay 5.80% but with a rate rise expected next month it will soon be over 6%, and compared with probably loosing 2 to 3 weeks waiting for Barclays to open the ISA don't reckon I'll loose out too much. Now to the wifes - cannot decide whether to do the same and do another NS&I or spread my bets and go with the Egg ISA.....decisions decisions.....0 -
I've just read this entire thread from the beginning...
I have learned to NEVER do my banking with a UK high street bank!
How very sad...0 -
Interesting thread. I looked in here because I popped into my local Barclays on March 28th to open an ISA simply so I could get the full allowance and then get the full allowance in for 2007-2008.
The chap I dealt with was friendly enough and didn't ask for any info other than what I'd have expected to open an account. I didn't realise I'd have to write a cheque (I probably didn't read the small print online but being a bank I naively assumed I could open the account there and then with a quid and then do a transfer PDQ) so he gave me all the forms/photocopies of ID in an envelope and told me to post it off with the cheque which I did the next day.
I still haven't head anything and they still don't appear to have cashed the cheque. I can imagine they have been totally swamped by their offer, but I also think that's not my problem they should have planned for that. Hopefully I'll hear something soon, the chap did leave me the Holy Grail, a phone number for the branch answerphone, but tbh if I nag them what's he going to be able to do, absolutely nothing!0 -
My fiance took out a Barclays Tax Beater Cash ISA for 2006/2007 just before the end of the tax year. He had verified that he had not put any money in an ISA for that year so far.

Has anyone else had a problem?
Finally got through and it turns out that the account was mistakenly closed. No explanation as to why. They are sorting it out and a complaint has been registered. Sounds like a case of underestimating the demand and people rushing.0
