I'm equally unimpressed. Still waiting for 4 cheques to be banked, and another to be returned.

Don't they understand that they're going to get more applications if they offer a better than normal rate, and don't they plan for this accordingly???!

I have lost my patience with this - I sent off the forms for 2007/8 2 weeks ago and havent heard anything. My money is going elsewhere and if they eventually get round to opening it will cancel using the 14 day rule.

i was thinking of doing the same thing, i believe that all the applications barclays received towards end of march should have been acknowledged as a minimum and that they should have had people dealing with the applications all over easter so that first working day back after easter all cheques were banked with confirmation of accont details sent to all applicants during this week, it doesnt take long to open an account especially when theres no ID to handle or return ( they have driving licence/passport copies to keep)

Reading this does not fill me with much joy. I applied for a Barclays ISA in one of their branches. Had to wait 25 minutes to be seen by one of their people. I had my ID, proof of address, cheque and completed application form all ready......only for the assistant to start whinging about how I am meant to have Photo ID (I had provided them with my paper driving license. I have had no reason to convert to the Photo version). I complained saying that it did not specify on the website or on the application form. She even went to her superior to see if my paper license was OK (she was probably not old enough to have ever seen a paper one)
After my license was approved, she commenced with tapping my details onto the system. It seemed to take forever - took about 15 minutes, with questions on my salary, house ownership, job, family etc thrown in too. I wasn't too impressed with that.

Anyway, after much tapping away, she said it was all done. Didn't give me anything to confirm that my application was successful . No piece of paper, no account number. Nada. No explanation of what the next processes would be or how long it would take.

And I have checked my current account and the cheque hasn't cleared.

Has anyone here managed to successfully open one of these Barclays TimeWaster ISAs and received all their documentation on their ISA account from Barclays? and if so, how long did it take?

    Grrrrrrrrr

I'm tempted to go with NS&I but am worried that it will get rejected on account of being the second subscribed in one tax year. Is this a valid concern? The rate they're working at, I'll probably be able to get my £3k into my NS&I account quicker than Barclays will be able to open and deposit my £1 into the new one.

I applied for one the other day, was in and out in about 10 mins...
We'll see how long it takes to get my confirmation letter.

should be no problem - there is no way NS&I would know in the short-term, and the Barclays T&Cs state if you cancel within 14 days of the account opening you can invest elsewhere

I applied at my local branch on 24th March for the 2006/07 tax year. I handed over a chq for the full £3000 and until this Wednesday I'd heard no more.

However on Wed morning I got a call from the manager of the branch I'd applied at to say my application and chq had been returned to the branch because the address details I'd provided weren't matching up. He made refference to my parents address which I moved out of back in 2005.

I don't really understand how this could have happened, especially as I took in my council tax bill as confirmation of my current address. The only thing I could think of is perhaps Barclays contacted the tax office as part of their checking process and they still have me at my old address??

I've since rang the tax office and they did still have me down at my old address so I've ammended it with them. To be honest I never thought of needing to inform them when I moved. Is it standard practice to inform the tax office when you move house?

It would be standard practice to inform everyone of your new address.

I appreciate what you're saying but when you move house you have a million and one things to think of and whilst I think it's obvious you need to inform your bank etc of your new address, updating the tax office never occured to me.

Am I the odd one out here or have other money savers on here neglegted to inform the revenue of a change of address?

If your earnings are in the 22% band and you have no other sources of untaxed income, why would you bother telling the IR of your house move?

I can't see they would be interested anyway - your letter is likely to go in the bin...
