I think I'm going to ditch Barclay's as well. They only pay £13.50 more than Egg over the course of the first year...

    Suze

I am tempted to forget this barclays fiasco and open one with Egg instead... but if they do get it open and backdated the Barclays rate is quite a bit better then Egg's. Hmmm what to do...

  • I've got an appointment at 1pm today.

The lady on the front desk was saying something about the 1% bonus being withdrawn at any time and if your application is not received before whenever this occurs the rate will obv be reduced to 5.50%

    Hmm...
  • Given up on Barclays. Went to my local branch and they said I needed to go to a bigger one or come back on another day when they'd have a person in. Why can't they let you do this online?

If they don't want my money then fine! You snooze, you lose.

Invested with Nsandi now. That was online and easy.

I'm going to give Barclays a bit more time. As they've offered the best ISA rate they've found themselves inundated with applications. As long as they backdate my interest then I'll be happy.

A few years back, I went for another 'best buy' ISA and it too took a little while to get setup - the provider backdated the interest - and all was well in the end. So I'm going to hang on and be patient.

I walked into Barclay's Dunstable last Saturday with online form and ID.
Waited 20 mins to be seen and then ID was checked and computer details entered by a Personal Banker chap while I watched - so I know I'm on the system:-)

No hard sell or personal questions asked - very painless.
Application form and cheque then sent on their ISA dept from the branch - they told me a couple of weeks probably to hear further.

I don't mind if they delay cashing the cheque as I'm earning double interest as the funds are waiting in a high interest current account:beer:

I went to my local branch yesterday to open ISA. After reading so many negative feedback regarding Barlclays, I braced my self for the worst. However it was not to be the case. I only had to wait couple of minutes, enough time to flick through the sports pages, and no personal questions ask. All was done within 10 minutes. I enquired how long will it take to set up the account. Personal banker told they have backlog of applications due to high interest rate and it is currently taking couple of weeks.

    Hi all

Those who have actually managed to get one of these accounts open - can you tell me what date has been used for the date of account opening? Was it the date you visited the branch or some date two weeks later when they actually got around to processing your application in Glasgow?

Visited the branch and wrote my cheque out on monday 26th March. Letter I received first week in arpil states account opened on friday 30th March.

I sent them a cheque for a further £3000 on 7th April. I haven't heard anything from them.

The main concern I have is the welcome letter and booklet don't mention the £3000 I opened the account with. I asked why I didn't get a receipt when I handed the cheque over in the branch, and the guy I was dealing with said, and I quote,

    BECAUSE ITS US!

Didn't exactly fill me with confidence.

I understand you can't view the account ISA account online, unless you open a current account.

Will they ever send a bit of paper acknowledging my £6000 they now have?

    Hi all

I've decided to ditch Barclays and have just opened an Egg account. I'm not confident I'm going to hear from Barclays any time soon and don't want to leave my £3k with the Halifax while they pull their fingers out.

Egg account took two minutes to open and with any luck my £3k will be with them by the middle of the week. I'm glad I only gave Barclays a cheque for £1!!!
