I sent of my letter to Citi cards asking for my statements and they have sent half a forest back asking for proof of who I am? Apparently they won't provide anything unless I fill in the forms and send of proof of my name and address? The thing is they ask for 1 of the following

    Copy of Passport
    Copy of Birth Certificate
    Copy of Driving License
    Copy of Marriage Certificate

I don't have any of the above? Is there a way to get around them asking for this info? Is this something I have to do? None of the other company's have asked for this?

Would this delay the 40days they have to return to me the copys of statements?

sorry for the many questions and your help is fully appriciated,

  • Hi there

Each time I get a letter from my bank C1t1bank the letter is a template, but the amount of the cheque which exceeded by over draft is handwritten on the letter.

Will this manual intervention by enough for the bank to claim their £35 charge for each letter is justified.

    All the best

    HI

Claire, i got the same letter after about a week. fortunately i have a driving license and sent a copy of that. the reason they gave in my letter is that the address they have on file (as account closed about 2 yrs ago) was a different one to the one im staying at and just wanted proof it IS me and not somebody trying to say its me. i wote a letter stating that the photocopy was enclosed and that ref: my letter, dated xx/xx/xx, i stated that they had 40 days to provide the information and that the 40 days will continue to run from the date of the initial letter. they seemed pleasant enough in the letter, ie that they will send the statements as soon as they receive the proof of my existance...but i am also ready to go to the next stage in the process if they dont turn up ;) hope this helps
    halifax bank claimed £4803 (£5863.88 inc%) paid £6143.29 :j
    CapitalOne card claiming £478 (£609.18 inc%) paid £689.71 :j
    Citicards claiming £700 (£888.23 inc%)

halifax bank (account 2) claiming £543.15 (£564.09 inc%) put on hold due to OFT outcome
  • A few detailed questions:

I've the first template-letter to Citi Card who has replied today that they have lowered they charges to the OFT recommended £12 and that these were not retrospective in effect... In short they won't refund my £390.

The same letter says: "In over a dozen recent court cases involving Citi, we have succeefully argued the fairness of the £12 charges. The cases have all resulted in the claims being dismissed and the courts have implicitly held the policy is fair and the charges reasonable."

How do I replied to this? Is sending the second template the right answer? Should I or do I have to recalculate the interests on the charges since two weeks have elaspe since the first letter?

Has anyone had his claim dismissed? Why? What is "loosing on a technicality"?

    Thanks for answering these points.

You should now send the second template letter recalculating interest if you have already asked for it in the first letter to keep it updated. It may not amount to much more than originally but will show Citi that the amount for reclaim is rising ;)

The Citicard thread here will give you more answers as to how they deal with claims against them:

I sent my first letter to CITI on reclaiming my bank charges and today i got a reply. The reply says on the 5th April last year OFT reasoned that their charges where to high so they lowered their charges to £12 in june 2006.They also claim that when challenged in court in over a dozen cases the claims have been dismissed and the judge has ruled that £12 is a fair charge in CITI favour. Now is their any truth in their claims are do you think their just scare tatics, cause if they had won over a dozen claims why have they not won them all !!! so should i proceed to my letter before action and keep to my time lines.Any help would be appreicated thank you.
