I thought I should update you following my earlier comment about Direct Line insuring me with a sign written van which I use for personal use only. :-/

I phoned them today realising that I had not notified them that the lettering had been removed and they said they wouldnt insure a sign written van. I explained to them that they had - my van - and that I had specifically asked about the lettering at the time (as I could have removed the lettering when I bought it) but they have no record of my conversation at all. Lucky I didnt have an accident then ! :-[

Does anyone know who would insure you if you joined AdsOnCars ? ???

Also, had anyone joined AdOnCars and actually had an Ad put on their vehicle - if so - do they have any positive or negative feedback ? ???

    Thanks,

    Alexx

    Hi!
What a brilliant idea! I've just signed up!

I've been struggling with my monthly payments for a wee while now. So I'm delighted with any scheme that helps me keep my car.

I also think it's really cool to be able to change the look of your car with different advertising. You'll never lose your car in a multi-storey car park again!!

    Let's hope I'm selected!

Jo-Ann here again - Director of AdsOnCars

Many thanks for your feedback and queries. You have raised some interesting points which we will try to include on our FAQs page. I will reply to them all soon but I would first like to calm your concerns over car insurance.

Most Insurance companies ( eg Tesco as mentioned above) have confirmed that there is NO PROBLEM with an AdsOnCars ad being on your vehicle and it will not effect your premiums. Having an Ad on your car does not make it a commercial vehicle. The only point they make is that they are not liable for the advert in the event of a crash, which we agree with.

Some insurance companies may not yet be fully aware of the BENEFITS of having an ad on your car for example, they are more visible therefore less chance of theft. If you received a "call centre" rejection (eg Direct Line) as this query does not appear on their screen, please do not be alarmed, we are speaking to the management to get this changed. We will have more information regarding insurance companies on the https://www.adsoncars.com website over the coming weeks which will reassure you.

For now please do not be concerned with this issue, IF you are selected in the future and IF you subsequently have a problem with your insurance company we would be pleased to provide you with a list of alternative companies who would be more than willing to provide you with a very competitive (probably better) quote. We aim to provide AdsOnCars members additional benefits, access to better car insurance being one.

Keep the comments coming - they are very valuable to us!

  • I think I've found a catch, or rather noticed a misconception. At the start did someone not say that they can pay up to £220 a month? Well the website says, and I quote:

"You will be PAID (between £70 and £220) or offered FREE PETROL for every full month you have an Ad on your car"

It also says that the length of the add campaigns last between 3 and 12 months. And from what I've seen it says nothing about being paid on a monthly basis so I think this great deal of £220 a month actually turns out to be £220 a year (i.e. the full 12 month campaign) and the £70 for the 3 month campgain.

A year's worth of having an ugly car (e.g. http://www.adsoncars.com/images/imageslarge/twisted_vinelarge.jpg) doesn't really seem like such a good deal for only £220 along with the possibility of added insurance cost and the extremely high chance of bams stealing or scratching the add off for a laugh. And you can bet if a car window is gonna be bricked in they're gonna brick in the stupid one covered in durex adverts.

There is a reference to monthly pay on the how it works page

    http://www.adsoncars.com/how.asp

    Does it cost me anything?
NO! The registration fee of £15 is currently being waived, so it is FREE TO ENROL, this is for a limited period only.
Once enrolled, AdsOnCars will guarantee you will not have to pay us a penny, ever!
If you are selected to display an ad on your car you could be receiving monthly payments from us of between £70-£220 for simply carrying out your daily routine

Hello - Jo-Ann (Director) here again.

Thank-you, Mini for clearing up the point made by UKsimian. Mini is correct - the fee (between £70 and £220) is MONTHLY - and, if selected, you will be paid for every full MONTH you have an ad on your car.

I will also point out again that you can refuse an ad if you consider it unsuitable or even ugly - we are not going to force you to wrap your car in anything you consider unsightly!! And please refer to my last posting for my response to insurance worries.

Now I would like to respond to the points made by Tigger about the clauses in the agreement...

Tigger wrote: "Clause 5.3 - They say that they may at anytime during the term of the agreement designate new displays, the frequency of this must be reasonable."

This refers to changing a display during a campaign.
EG During 12 month campaign, the advertiser needs to change their message (for a whole host of reasons) they must have the facility to replace an unwanted / out of date message with a new one.

Tigger wrote "Clause 5.5 - at Work & at Home the car must be in a conspicuous location on the street. Work I park my car in their car park and at Home on the drive (garaged at night - insurance implications) their interpretation of an enclosed drive could be misconstrued - I would not park my car on the street when I have these facilities are to hand. "

5.5 Also states the term "To the extent reasonably feasible". It would not be reasonable feasible to ask you to park your car on a road when it is usually garaged (especially if indicated as a clause on your insurance)

Tigger wrote "Clause 7.2.1 - Damage to the Car on installation, will be pursuant to the warranty of the display manufacturer as provided at the time of installation - Why isn't this included in the Agreement - there are a whole new raft of terms and conditions to possibly consider here and it is unreasonable to expect the Owner to agree at the time."

Firstly, this is included in the agreement. Both in the Drivers section and again following completion of the application form.
Secondly, This clause is included as the vinyl has a warranty by the manufacturer which needs to be adhered to.

Tigger wrote: "Clause 7.3 - Removal of display. What if a third party unknowingly removes the Display i.e. when parked conspicuously on the street somewhere? Could damage your car and are you insured? Loads of implications here."

Reason; The vinyl needs to be professionally removed. To maintain control of the process this has to be included. If drivers attempted to remove the vinyl they may cause damage, who would then be responsible ? Also the vinyl is very difficult to remove so would be difficult for a third party to remove. They are more likely to spend 20 seconds stealing the contents of the car than an hour trying to remove an advert !

Tigger wrote: "Clause 5.6 Insurance - Is as mentioned in my previous posting"

Again, See previous posting and website in coming weeks for input from insurance companies

I hope this clears things up for you - if not, feel free to email us or keep posting here. All these points are good ones and we are more than happy to respond to them.

    Hi Jo

Can I ask a quick question?

What happens if a member decides to sell their car during the 5 years? Obviously it couldn't be done while an advert is on the car but at other times is it just a case of notifying Ads-On-Cars? Also, would members have to inform you if personal circumstances change, such as job, having children etc?

    Thanks,

    Andrea :)

ensure the vehicle intended for Ad Placement is in good condition

Quick question, what is reasonable condition?
    Do minor scratches matter?
    Do minor bumps matter?

    :)
    Thanks!! :D:D:D
