Let's not turn this into yet another thread about smacking, it's been done to death on here.

I don't really get the "oh, I don't know where my kids are, so it's not my fault" attitude. I think that's the cause of a lot of the problems we're seeing, tbh. Just my opinion.

Sorry, that wasn't what I meant. I only added in the bit about my eldest playing outside occasionally in case anyone thought I was suggesting that 10 year olds should always be holding mummy's hand. I remember how heated the thread about Shannon got, where some people who said they let their 9 year olds walk to school alone or go out to play were accused of neglectful parenting and not loving their children enough.

I didn't mean that if you don't know where your child is it's not your fault if they misbehave, I just meant that the parents can't really be punished as such, if they weren't involved in the prank.

I do think that parents of criminal children should be assessed by social services and sent on parenting courses or get family counselling. I know that some children will be easily led by others, but in general I think there must be a problem somewhere for a child so young to act in such a way.

Yes, it's possible to discipline kids and punish them without smacking them.

I just hope the parents do discipline and punish these silly girls.

Unfortunately, I can see it becoming their 15 minutes of fame and the source of much amusement and hilarity down at the local pub between the parents and their friends.

How on earth do you know that??

I remember a boy at my school did some prank or other involving the fire brigade. This was a boy at a private school, with wealthy middle class parents. Just because these girls did this doesn't mean their parents are some chavs who will find it funny!

I can't remember what happened to the boy at my school, but I know that NO-ONE found it in the slightest bit funny, beleive me. His parents were furious, embarressed, and shocked.

I would sincerely hope that the parents do not find it funny, that they are furious and embarrassed and shocked.

But there is no guarantee of that, is there?

I don't find it funny and if I was within hearing and one of the parents was making light of the 'incident', I'd tell them how appalling their attitude is.

I don't know their parents (do you?), I wasn't the one who mentioned chavs - I believe that was you.

People do not need to be classed as chavs to find some of the antics of their little darlings amusing.

Maybe the girls' parents are the sort who, when their offspring are told off at school, go charging into school shouting the odds about their childrens rights.

I'm sure the 11 year old boy who managed to get himself on the Jet2 plane to Rome is bigging himself up to his friends.

Right. You said 'you can see it' becoming a source of amusement for their parents down the pub. Why is that?? Comes across as very judgemental.

Personally I can see the parents being mortified.

So I'm judgemental (in your opinion, of course).

Get over it. Or don't. It's up to you.

I hope the parents are mortified too.

Incidentally, I'm not being 'judgemental' about these particular sets of parents.
    I don't know them.
    Neither do you, I suspect.
It was a generic comment that some parents in the same situation wouldn't be mortified, or embarrassed, or furious or shocked.

The police should show each of the culprits a breakdown of the total cost of manpower and resources wasted during their little scheme before splitting it in half and presenting the parents with bill for half each...! I'm sure when faced with a bill for a few thousand pounds the parents will be more than happy to dish out a suitable punishment.

But alas, we are living in broken Britain and there's every possibility that the parents couldn't care less! Even more reason to send them the bill!

If my daughter was involved in something like this she would be grounded until she reached pension age. With no TV, phone, DS, t'internet etc.
Marge... if the bible has taught us nothing else, which it hasn't, it's that girls should stick to girls sports like hot oil wrestling, foxy boxing and such and such...! Homer Simpson

Of course I don't know them! Nor do you... Err that was my point!! Just wondered why you 'could see them' having a laugh about it.

Some people see the best in people, some the worst. You seem to be the latter.
