:eek:Spoken to? Bl**dy spoken to? Unbelievable....

I think the girls and their families are getting more than a talking to. In a report it says that officers are liasing with the girls' parents and partner agencies to take appropriate action. It is very sad that children get to 10 years of age and think that this kind of hoax is a bit of harmless summer holiday fun. Speaks volumes to me about how badly they are being raised.
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.

It is quite shocking, my oldest DD is coming up 10 and I know for a fact she wouldn't dream of doing anything like this as she knows it is wrong. I would feel ashamed if I was one of the parents. Hope the girls get taught a lesson and the parents come to think of it.

A tad saddened by a few people on Facebook saying that people are daft to be angry, we were all kids once...

Well yes we were, but that doesn't make a crime like this acceptable! I remember being dared to ring 999 and ask for the fire service (or 911 we were abroad and I can't remember which number we would have used) as a child of about 8? I didn't have the guts to complete the last digit as I was so petrified of doing it and being caught.

The police never fail to prove how useless they are! It can't be that hard surely to track them via the electrol roll or even contacting the local gp surgeries for all the address of patients by the name. Failing that why not go to every estate with the word mount in and knocking on number 23?

Wonder if you will post an apology to the police?

If you think that they didn't try and check hospitals, GP's etc then you don't really have any concept of how they operate. Police deal with calls like this every single day however most of them can be dealt with quickly as they are either real or a false alarm (ie child doing it by accident). All avenues would have been exhausted before launching a public appeal.

More worrying is how two 10 year old girls managed to fool the police. I also learned for the first time that the police can't trace where calls come from - horrifying!

They can trace calls except unregistered PAYG phones apparently , there were plenty on sky saying it was a hoax and l thought they were overly cynical - shows dhow much l know. I think the police knew it was a hoax but were determined to find out who it was.

can't believe some of you blame the parents, kids of that age KNOW it's wrong but they'll be likely to encourage each other until things get out of hand. Of course the parenting plays a part but the blame is with the two girls themselves.

    Happy moneysaving all.

The kids should be charged with wasting police time. I'm not one for criminalising kids but what sort of sick twisted brat fakes a 999 call about a toddler trapped in a house with her dead mother?

The parents should get a bill for the time wasted by the emergency services. The culprits might then get suitably punished, by their parents, for their mindless actions.

    Why only 5?

8 years would take them to adulthood.
