Why the everyday make-up?

Rest assured I have no intention of being an air hostess

I am just starting to study with the OU to train for work in a school, makeup is not mandatory in schools, just to be smartly dressed.
I will probably wear makeup to a do I'm going to this weekend, so I might have a photo then (i'm quite camera shy) and I was going to ask my friend to pluck my eyebrows
ETA ask me for the identical twins in 10 years time, mine aren't old enough for makeup yet :rotfl:Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession

I mentioned this to my SIL a few months ago and she was aghast and told me when I arrived at her wedding (to my brother) as bridesmaid, all my brother's mates were asking "who's the gorgeous blond?" I find that impossible to believe. I think they were being sarcastic. Maybe it is just paranoia but I honestly think people stare at me in the street or supermarket. I'm finding myself refusing to look at people again because of this. Someone once told me that they thought I had Polymorphic Body Disorder which makes people see ugly in the mirror but that's not it. I am a dog - it's not my imagination!0 -

I am not a medical professional but... I think you have a problem and need to talk to someone.
People do NOT stare at others in the street because they are ugly for two reasons: 1. as a society we have been brought up not to stare as it isn't polite and 2. most of us don't really care that much about how strangers look in day to day life (unless they are wearing a chicken outfit or are naked). We are too busy worrying about remembering the milk or planning an evening etc.
We are all individuals and all have our best bits... if you don't see any 'best bits' and genuinely think you are a 'dog' (not the animal kind, I know) then please speak to someone as I really do think that you may have been damaged by all those taunts when your were younger and may not see yourself as you really are.:hello:0 -

Personally, I have reached a point in my life where I am comfortable with who I am, what I can achieve and what I want from life.
I'm sorry that you find it hard to grasp that I might want to wear makeup or choose to wear makeup but I do - my life, my choice.
And the fact that you want so deperately to believe that I wear makeup because I am weak and have been manipulated... well, again, that says more about you than it does about me.
I am not missing the point, I gave you my opinion, which you continue to misunderstand. I never said you were weak, I believe all consumers are manipulated by adverts and marketing. Just look at the olympics!
My point again; you wouldn't miss it if it wasn't there.
Why do you want to wear make up? To enhance your appearence yes? So there is a part of you which thinks your appearance needs enhancing. I believe the manufacturers have instilled that into you
You are not weak, you are human and are their perfect customer.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

Or maybe, some people just like different things to you.0 -
I can't be bothered with it really. It might take some people five minutes to put it on, but it would end up talking me at least 20, and on top of that I have a really bad habit of rubbing my eyes so there would be mascara and eyeshadow all over the shop. It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.0

In fact, when people asked me if I knew so-and-so, I had to know what type of shoes they wore as I'd never actually seen their face. No exaggeration. In year 8 or 9, a girl once said to me "you're pure ugly (insert name). You'll never get a boyfriend". All this did was confirm what I already knew. 30 years later, I'm still driven by this statement

Hence the daily make up.
Oh hun
I had that a lot at school too - ""ugly" "dog" "big nose" etc etc. Never goes away does it, no matter how many compliments you might have had since then?

But there are those, like me, who don't wear make-up because we just can't be bothered. I don't think its a hassle to put make-up on, I just personally would rather have an extra 5 minutes in my bed over putting on make-up, so I've never built the make-up timing into my morning routine.
I do own some make-up (that I've had for years because I use it so rarely) and I know that I personally do look healthier with a tan and some waterproof mascara on. My tan wasn't a cosmetically-applied one, so that just leaves the mascara really. So if the manufacturers of the cosmetic industry have instilled in me the feeling that I need to enhance my appearance, they don't appear to have had much success - because for the last 10 years or so I'm firmly in the CBA camp
.
I think most women probably do have some make-up, and sometimes wear it, sometimes don't. Whatever floats each individual's boat, as it were.0 -
Marketing is the only reason women feel better with makeup on. The makeup manufacturers are rubbing their hands in glee, raking in the cash from vulnerable women they have convinced look ugly without it.I am not missing the point, I gave you my opinion, which you continue to misunderstand. Oh do stop with the 'holier than thou' sermons... Advertising is a multi-billion £ /$ market - it wouldn't have grown to be so profitable and influencial if humans weren't susceptible to suggestion.
Big deal! Again, you miss my point - I make choices in life and am comfortable with them; even if those CHOICES are based on adverts, trends or whatever, they are still choices.
No one holds a gun to my head and no one will suffer if I change my mind.
I like to 'enhance' my looks with makeup just as I choose to enhance my home with a fresh lick of paint every now and again. I could have left it as magnolia forever but I like the look of a slightly warmer colour. Where's the difference?
On the days when I choose trousers instead of a skirt I am not doing so to cover up my fear of others seeing my legs... so why should you assume that about my face and makeup? I have no deep-seated 'issues', sorry to disappoint you.
Yet again, you are suggesting that people who wear makeup are not in control of their actions and have been manipulated by a higher power...
You have no idea what makes me tick - do not presume to judge me by the fact that I choose to wear makeup - you have admitted that you have issues, don't assume that applies to everyone else.:hello:0
