DS' appeal was turned down but that was to be expected. Am still disappointed though :(

never mind, will make the most of whatever he has to do to keep his education going.

Have I missed your birthday Beanie? thought it was end of month.

3Dogs well done on all the decluttering, you are doing so well. I am not :(

Sorry Aesop for not commenting on your appeal news :o Sorry if didn't work out for you, but I am sure that you will make the most of the position and DS will not lose out

We've had rumbling thunder and heavy rain on and off all day today  Andy, Steve and Kit took an extra hour to drive up due to the bed weather on the way. They got here at 6 pm and, after a cuppa, we started clearing the sitting room ready for decorating. Sofa and chairs in middle of room with loads of clutter on them :o Washed down the walls and woodwork ready to start painting tomorrow. Almost 9pm before they left to drive to Cambridge where they are staying at a friend's house. They connected the tv and modem up for me before they left and I have just purned one of the chairs back round and made myself as comfy as I can. Will have to move 3 large boxes off my bed before I can get in there later and some things out of the shower tray before I shower in the morning

I took doggies to the kennels about 3pm and then went to get my new furniture to find that they had sold out of the sideboard, so was only able to get the nest of tables, and the bookcase. Manager rang the other local store but they had sold their last 3 sideboards that morning  She did check with their warehouse to find that more are on order so I reserved one for when they come in, anything from 2 days to a week. I as so disappointed as the lads were going to put them all together for me on Monday, but they will do the others and I will try to do the sideboard myself when it comes - that'll be a laugh

Evening guys - the gang have been here since 11am and only left about half an hour ago, and boy did I work them hard :rotfl: :rotfl: They did all the prep, did 2 coats of emulsion and then the glo on skirtings, door and windowsill, and on top of that, Andy cleaned my sitting room window outside  Between coats of emulsion, I took them to a nearby pub for a Sunday roast whcih was lovely. I opted for roast beef, new potatoes, carrots, peas and green beans, with no gravy, so stuck to S/world plan ;)

Poor Steve had hurt his back before coming up here, and could hardly straighten up after finishing :(

They are coming over about 9am to touch up the glosswork, put the furniture back, and put together the bookcase and nest of tables I bought yesterday. It's a shame I couldn't get the sideboard at the same time so that could be assembled too, but will have to wait for that. Still, it will look lovely. Just got to sort out curtains and new flooring and it will all be done :j :j

The three of them worked so hard today, and all I had to do was wash the paint brushes and paint pads :o

Hope you are all having a good Bank Holiday weekend

I am off to bed soon. It will be lovely tomorrow with my furniture back in place instead of piled in the middle of the room with plastic sheeting over them

    Goodnight all - sleep well

Good morning 3Dogs, :) Last night I wrote a long post on your thread but managed to click 'close browser' instead of 'tools' when trying to cut 'n paste a comment from your latest post, right at the end.. Aargh! ..Which is what happens when I'm too tired to think and should really be in bed!

I'll begin again this morning - and what a beautiful dawn it was here in East Anglia, :) though it's clouding over now. I've just remembered it's a bank holiday so had to creep outside and put away my bins - I really was very tired last night (and thought I was being sooo organised! :( ).

First of all *Robin*, I must apologise for not replying to your pm yet. I kept putting it off as I am finding it hard to motivate myself at times. So I was so pleased to see that you had posted on here :j :j

No, actually I must apologise for bothering you privately when you hadn't a clue who I was. Actually I'm very grateful to you for giving me the 'oomph' to post my own diary. :)

Your story certainly is so close to mine, even down to the dogs and the tatty van :rotfl: :rotfl:The difference being that our Vauxhall Combo van is tidy on the outside but not mechanically sound ;) so I really need reliable wheels.

I bet you're getting excited about your new car.. Must say I like Nissans, I get to drive one every time something falls off my battered Transit because my garage uses Nissans as courtesy cars - they're nippy, economical and grip the road well - if I wanted another car I'd definitely look at a Nissan first. I'm sure Alan would be pleased with your choice. :)

Please let us know how you are getting on with the paperwork and with life in general, so that we can all help each other along this hard road we have found ourselves on. Sharing is Caring on this thread :D:D

Will do, :) and I love your motto (if that's the right word?).

Yes, you get £2000 Bereavement Allowance and then, if over 50 I think, £105+ weekly for 12 mth of Bereavement Benefit. Glad I've helped you this way

Thank you again - I had no idea.. (obviously hadn't read that booklet "What to do when someone dies" properly - think I gave up at about page 10 - silly me!).

Location - Guyhirn, just outside of Wisbech and Alan was at Kings Lynn QE hospital and then North Cambs in Wisbech for the last few days ........... so, are you near?

Not quite as close as I was thinking - we were sent south to Cambridge, and PC was offered a place at the Cambridge hospice, but he chose to come home when it became clear modern medicine had nothing to offer him.
Still, you are not far off my route when daft dogs and I visit MIL, so don't give up hope of that free lunch! :D

I didn't have to do probate or use a solicitor as, although Alan didn't leave a will, neither did he have any property, savings, etc. I just had to make a declaration at the bank to close his account and got a cheque for the balance on his account a couple of day later

Ah sorry, my mistake; I assumed you and Alan own your home because of all the landscaping and redecorating you are doing. I really didn't enjoy having to fill in all the probate forms, but it's done now thank goodness. :)

I expect your living room looks very different today, after your friends' efforts yesterday? Well done on making all the changes - this is another area where I will be following you, as my place is too big and expensive to run for just one person, so I'm going to rent it out. Before then the paintwork must be freshened up and I'll have to get rid of some furniture too, as the tenants only want the white goods and bookcases.

Here's another similarity between us; I've got a hedgehog in the garden too. He lives under the shed and does a wonderful job of eating slugs - but drives daft dogs bonkers if they find him at night!

Wow 3Dogs, sounds like you've had a very busy weekend to say the least - where do you find the energy, and can you please bottle some and send it my way :D What a pain about the sideboard, I'd err against trying to put that together yourself (been there done that ) you deff need two pairs of hands to do something like that. Could you send your DIY team over to mine next, I have windows that need to be both cleaned and painted :D Big hugs to you and the furry ones xx

What a day it's been today  Steve, Andy and Kit arrived at 9am and I was still in bed, haven't fallen back asleep after the alarm went off :o They'd started work before I'd even got dressed, with Kit doing second coat of gloss on the woodwork, as poor Steve had agravated his bad back and could hardly move. A bit more touching up and then moving the furniture back into place and the clutter, from the cupboards I got rid of, into the bedroom 'temporarily' ;)

It was so like those makeover shows as we kept saying 'what time is it?', 'how much longer have we got?' and 'what time will they be here?' as my niece, her OH and 2 girls where visiting. They had been at Nottingham for the weekend for the 'World Championships' for Jazz/Marching Bands, at which the girls had done very well, and were driving over after breakfast at their hotel to see me for a few hours before driving home to Tyneside. When they arrived at 11.30am, we were sitting waiting in a very tidy, uncluttered and nearly decorated sitting room .................. the rest of the house was a tip though

We had a lovely time, a natter and something to eat and then they left to drive home about 4pm. Steve, Andy, Kit and I then rushed out to the shops for a new curtain rail at B&Q and a bit of shopping at Tosco, then back home and the guys did a little more touching up of the paint, fitted the new rail and got my curtain back up. I need to buy new curtains but the ones I have look ok for now. Then, after something to eat, they started to assemble my bookcase only to get half way through and one of the fixings broke and one of the upright pieces had started to split   Just put everything back inyo the box, taped it up, and they put it in the van for me together with the box containing the nest of tables as I will be taking them back tomorrow for a full refund as the quality is not what I expected for the price  Disappointed, but I want to get the right furniture which will last a long time and be just what I have pictured in my mind, so will get searching again, though this time, whatever I buy will be ready-assembled not flat-pack ;);)

By this time it was getting very late, so I quickly made them some sarnies for their journey back and they left around 9.30pm but they had to return to friend's house near Cambridge for their bags etc, before driving home to Portsmouth. They aren't going to get home until about 1.30am............. and Kit is working in the morning, doing interviews at the college   I can't thank them enough for what they have done for me, especially over this weekend when they could have been relaxing at home - they are wonderful ............ and to think, we met them on the internet, through MSE :j :j :j :j :j

Since they left, I made myelf a chicken caesar salad and then got down to clearing all the clutter which had been put on my bed ................... and that took some doing  . Anyway, all done now, so I will be able to go to bed ok later :D
