That will deal with the ones living outdoors but they particularly thrive indoors at this time of year when everyone switches on their central heating ;)

  • So I may have spoken too soon and jinxed myself....

Dog started scratching again. I flea combed and got one tiny one off her but no others. As luck would have it, they were all due their next flea treatment on that very day so they were all done instantly and there has been no more scratching.... I'm just hoping that it was one that the dog picked up on a walk rather than a new hatchling from inside the house.... (yeah, right!)

I'm waiting with everything crossed and 2 cans of spray in the cupboard ready to go at short notice, to see what happens next...

So far so good, no more scratching and no more fleas found... hopefully it was just one random one that she'd picked up somewhere.....!!!!
  • fleas are developing an immunity to Frontline, it isn't working in killing the fleas very well. You need to go to a vet and get something like Stronghold or Advocate. These also kill some worms and mites.

  • Found another random one scuttling around in the dog's fur last night, they seem to have upped sticks and moved from his under-belly to his head & neck now, the itching has been there more the last few days. I have no idea why. Perhaps the tablets work better around the main body. God knows!

Is it safe to use a flea collar as well as everything else i listed before?(tablets, spot on, baths etc)

Hurry up and deliver my Indorex VetUK!

What have you used previously? Just scanned your long post and you mention Frontline. Don't use any other topical treatment within 30 days of applying this, or bath him either. Also, you've thoroughly treated the house with Acclaim so no need to apply Indorex on top of it. You don't want to chemically poison everyone :D

  • I've used Frontline. Spoke to the vet and was told not to apply the new advantage until the 1st Oct, since my last FL was 1st Sept. Vet said in the meantime i could give him a Capstar or similar tablet. PaH didnt have the Capstar so he's had Bob Martin flea tablets when I've spotted any crawling around.

I dont really want to give him more tablets as I'm worried about how much he's having, hence i wondered about the flea collar.

I ran out of Acclaim and noticed from here that Indorex is possibly better and available online, also some people said you should re-spray after a few weeks becasue of flea cycle?

    It's so confusing!

Capstar will kill the fleas immediately and can be used daily. Don't use a flea collar though whilst using Frontline/Advantage.

Most fleas and eggs are found in the home not on the pet, you need to treat the house properly, all the parts under and behind furniture that you missed. It's a royal PITA! Yes the fleas may be in the room your have not unpacked, the eggs can survive months. :( Have you been able to get in your housemate's bedroom? Even if the dog doesn't go in there flea eggs walk in on shoes.

Yes I asked her permission to spray it when I did the rest of the house, and i'll go back in on Saturday when I re-spray. She really is very accomodating!

For those with pets that are suffering at the mo, I had a bottle of skin calming tea tree spray for the pup in the cupboard which helps sooth his itchy eczema hot spots. Totally forgot about it until last night. I gave him a good dosing and he really was much happier.

It has lavender oil in as well which apparently fleas dont like and it's all natural too. I spritzed him, his bed and my sofa last night and definitely saw a lot less itching. :T

I dont think its a cure, but certainly seems to help whilst the household spray, spot on treatment and hoovering takes effect..Im going to spritz him every time we go for a walk so that the critters are less inclined to jump on him.
