lol i only have one dog and bless him has fleas he has a thick fur so i carnt see them on most of his body only when he is showing his belly i c one o 2 running across him we got flea shampoo and used that then 2 days later we used drops and 2 days on he still has fleas i thought they would have died by now i was thinking do flea tablets work ? and can they take them azwell as drops ? i hav also hooverd a few times since i saw them and washed all bedding as my dog sleeps on bottom of my bed (hubbys fault he is soft ) but i carnt use a flea coller because he sleeps on my bed sooo can i use tablets too ?? x

Speak to your vet about exactly which product you already used on the dog and whether you can use another veterinary quality product. Hoovering and washing bedding will not eradicate the infestation, you need to spray the whole house to destroy all the eggs and larvae. It's well worth reading the thread.

I sympathise - we have 9 cats and are currently dealing with a flea infestation. I'm getting bitten as well :( This weekend's job is to frontline the moggies (some of which are semi-feral and are only in the house occasionally) and spray carpets etc, once I've decluttered; the cats aren't going upstaird at the moment because I keep bedroom doors shut all the time. We've been battling this all summer. I heard that CO2 in the air is what triggers flea eggs to hatch so am opening all the windows to try and keep the air clear. We don't generally frontline the cats outside spring/summer but maybe we need to do it all year to make sure we've dealt with it completely. Hoovering isn't a problem - I think we've only managed to hoover 3 or 4 times this year with my limited mobility and DH's capacity to ignore all housework!

I know you say the cats don't go upstairs but don't neglect to spray up there too as they'll hitch a ride up there on you if they're already in the house ;)

  • Time for the big guns!

We've got the Staykill... I just need some advice on how to use it properly ;)

The vets told me to leave it on for about 2 hours before hoovering again, however I always thought the best thing to do was leave it as long as possible?

Also, my cat is an indoor girl, will it be safe for her to stay in the house after treating? I've read online that it is very strong and its best to get out of the house for an hour or 2 after treating whilst leaving all the doors and windows closed... but we cant send her out! lol

Our cat has fleas. She is an old girl & scratching like mad. have seen a few about the house too so I need to get acting ASAP.
Never had a flea problem before & unsure where to begin.
I want to nail this hard & fast & need advice on the best products to buy.
I am on benefits so will need to be sure my money is well spent on proven products rather than bog standard shop otems.

    Any help is much appreciated.

It's well worth reading the thread: Acclaim or Indorex are the most often recommended for the home.

    Hi Hogshead,

Go back and read the whole thread, all the info you need is here.

My advice, do it properly first time. Don't skip any bits of the house or assume there are no fleas/eggs/larvae just because the animals don't go there. It only takes one egg....
  • Well since this thread has been resurrected, I'm going to bite the bullet and declare myself, my pets and my house officially a flea free zone!!!

    YAY!!!

Stick with it all my fellow flea bags, you will win the war against fleas!!

(crossed fingers, touch wood and hope I haven't jinxed myself by shouting that out loud!!)

So I may have spoken too soon and jinxed myself....

Dog started scratching again. I flea combed and got one tiny one off her but no others. As luck would have it, they were all due their next flea treatment on that very day so they were all done instantly and there has been no more scratching.... I'm just hoping that it was one that the dog picked up on a walk rather than a new hatchling from inside the house.... (yeah, right!)

I'm waiting with everything crossed and 2 cans of spray in the cupboard ready to go at short notice, to see what happens next...
