Noooo don't tell me that!! Really?? Might cry. :rotfl: Can we buy the proper stuff at pets at home or somewhere or do I need to order it online?
Right, so hoover everywhere, then spray everywhere, then don't hoover again for like a week, then what? I can't hoover for a WEEK? Wow even a scruff like me will struggle with that! :rotfl:
Thanks
You certainly can buy it online and the cheapest place at the moment appears to be Amazon
If you want it sooner then yes, I think Pets at Home sell it, as do some of the larger Boots chemists and Lloyds Pharmacy, or your vet of course. Usually retails around £10-£12 a can.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

If you have the professionals in to spray they advise not to vacuum for two weeks! I can tell you from moving into an infested house myself that I wasn't bitten for the two weeks and then eggs started hatching again. Apparently the eggs can survive for months without hatching. It will be worth it to be flea free.
Yes dogs can always pick up fleas from the garden or out on walks, but fleas specific to completely different animals cannot breed on a dog just like cat/ dog fleas cannot breed on human blood. Furthermore if you are using a good veterinary spot religiously the odd flea or two will not stand a chance. I honestly don't think that is the main issue, the issue is you have an active infestation in the house that has not been addressed by the previous owner - the evidence is on your ankles.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -

I do have lots of bites on my anklesI'm really annoyed that they let us move in with it like this, they are very good friends to my best friend so i'm just going to see the good in them and assume they didn't know. Anyway, I will follow all your fab advice and hopefully i'll be rid of them soon enough
 Think happy & you'll be happy

I have to say I would tell them, not to be nasty just to be fair to their animals.Maybe just saying you are being bitten and you thought they'd want to know - apparently there is a massive problem with infestations this year, and you were shocked to learn there is resistance to some of the common flea products now.
The house I moved into years ago was owned by a professional. I rang her to complain about the fleas and she just said I needed to vacuum every day so she did know!! She was a dirty moo tho, when I Dysoned I had to empty it after ONE room it was full of pet hair. _pale_Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
Acclaim is slightly cheaper on https://www.vetuk.co.uk £7.62 for 500ml can instead of £7.91 for 400ml. Don't know why they do different sized cans. Also not sure about the postage costs either.
Keep with it Hayley. I would tell the previous people about the fleas, if they genuinely didn't know they may offer to refund you the cost of the spray. Are you renting? If so the LL might prefer to get professionals in and get it delt with once and for all.0 -

Completely forgot to add, I was using stuff on me too, to stop the fleas biting. Any mosquito repellent should help although I find Avon Skin so Soft to be pretty good.
I'd start the day with my 'stomp test' (see my post #79) then clear myself of any fleas and use the repellent, which helped keep the critters away for the rest of the day.0 -
How are all my fellow flea club people getting on?
Still nothing here, but I just can't shake the feeling I'm going to get another outbreak any day now... and I keep trying to pick the freckles off my legs because they look like fleas!!0 -

We're based in the south east and our veterinary practice charges £3.20 for issuing simple scripts without consultations. However, if it's requested during another appointment, there is no charge for a prescription. £16 is very high. I've heard of a £25 charge before, too. :eek:0 -
Hi Flea bags!
Another one here with an infestation!
Have treated my lil lady with Frontline combo from the vets and have noticed a flea on me earlier (never before). is this where they are coming off her because of the frontline?
I need to get some spray for my house... will 1 500ml tin do a 3 bedroomed house or should I get a couple?
Also, can I sweep with a dustpan and brush after treating floors etc? As my cat is a British Blue she has a double coat and loses a fair bit of fur so not vacuuming for a week or 2 will be horrid lol!
Thanks x0 -
Hope no one minds me jumping on board.
I have never had a problem with fleas on my cat...until now. I frontline him every 28 days, have done since he started getting outside (December, was indoor cat before then) He was treated when indoors too, just not as often! He was last treated on Saturday. Last night I found a live critter in his head. I panicked, dont do beasties! Got the nit comb out and found more. One even jumped onto me eeek. Sat combing cat for as long as he would allow, hes very tolerant. Im horrified at the amount of beasts I got off him. Never having noticed them before Im now worried that hes been crawling with them for a while and Ive just not noticed. Poor Smudge.
I have never had to deal with this before so I have a few questions Im hoping for help with.
When can I next treat Smudge given that he was only done on Sat?
What about my house, wooden floors, no carpets but a cat that sleeps everywhere!
I have no bites on me, but, Smudge sleeps in my bed, does that mean my bed is crawling too? I actually slept on the sofa (leather, washed with soapy water, just in case) last night as the thought of them in my bed was just too much!!
Duvet going to launderette today, all my clothes are being washed as I type, am I being silly, I feel soooo dirty?
How do I treat my mattress??
So many questions I know but I have never had to deal with this before. I always said if my son ever got nits he would have to live with his granny till they cleared up...who can I foster the cat out to lol.
A wee update from me.
After calling the vet I was given a spray for the house (RIP Flea) This stuff is amazing, not a single beastie has survived in my house since using it. Flies, spiders, daddylonglegs etc all break dancing on their backs on the floor!! I was also allowed to treat Smudge again. I took the stuff I had used to the vet (Bob Martin) and they told me it was absolutely useless. Got Strong hold for him (on prescription) I kid you not, within half an hour of using it I could see dead fleas on the floor!! Been combing him daily since and (touch wood) he seems to be clean. I did find flea dirt on him for about a week after using it but assume it takes time to brush it all out.
My whole house was hoovered and scrubbed, every cover, curtain, towel and item of clothing washed, my washing machine almost had a nervous breakdown!
I really hope this is the last of it, dont think I could go through it again.
Just as a precaution though, I now have all my spare bedding and towels stored in vacuum bags so nothing can get in. There is no way Im doing all that washing again!
Hope everyone else is winning the war.
