Sometimes this happens when there is a long url in a message. The software will not split it and puts it all on one line. The width of the page is then governed by the length of the url.
Hi Mod
Yes, I understand the above. This has always happened. The difference between then and now is this:
Before, only the post with the overlong url ran off the right hand side of the screen.
Now, ALL posts run off the right hand side of the screen.
As I said above, 3 foot wide posts only seem to occur after requesting more than 100 recent posts. It may well be that within those posts requested last night there was one or more overlong url but for all posts to adopt the form of the widest one is a new and unpleasant occurrence.Do It To Them Before They Do It To You

Hi trafalgar/Mod and Martin
The culprit is a long url contained in the link below.
When I checked “Recent Posts” it was number 43. Requesting "Recent Posts" above [in this case] number 43, will result in all recent posts displayed being corrupted.
So what I said above is correct. Any post containing a long url will now corrupt all other recent posts.

i really don't like how the msg board is in the frameset now, and how it's not even optional to open it in a new window. it's bad enough on my monitor set at 1024x768 let alone anyone running 800x600.0

Oh god!!!! NO NO NO NO!!!! please no!
It's absolutely awful and I'm sorry if I'm being rude but I can't stand it..
The site wasn't brilliant before but putting the forum in frames that you can't break out of!!!!nooooooooo..
A forum should never have side frames.. it just spoils the flow for readers - that may be on the board for a very long time at once.. it just makes it harder to use. For us deprived souls that can't get broadband it's even worse.. as every time I load a page on the forum that menu has to reload taking *ages*..
As a webdesigner I have an aversion to frames.. They can be useful.. but sometimes they are a plain nuissance..
A single left hand frame is an issue as someone has already stated due to looking central.. it screws your head up having to look off centre..
If you're running 800*600 this board is pretty much rendered useless.. and as that's the second most popular resolution are there are still idiots using even smaller it's definately an issue.. people saying to use a full window.. even F11ing doesn't help because it's width not height that's the issue..
what I'm worried about.. how much does the development of this site cost??!?! it's pretty basic.. it shouldn't cost much!
You want to intergrate the forum but so many sites have it seperate and it works.. I come here often enough to not see things change on the main page but the forum changes a lot.. so I just want to go straight there.. it doesn't mean the main site is any less important..
How about popping it out of the frame as a pop up from the main page?? (not a whole proper window.. just a window with title bar..) that way you keep the main site open when you open the forum.. but people can go straight there if they want. That can be slightly smaller than the whole window too so that it's central but you can see the main site behind..
This is getting very long..
If you want some more advice/feedback just let me know (pm or something) from a designer's point of view..0 -
Ok folks. It's good feedback. I get the point about making it more narrow and will try and have a look at that. I think this is a getting used to thing.
One thing to note - the chat forum is now stretchable. That actually means if you make sure you're fulling a full page those on bigger monitors will find the actual chat bit much much wider. Those looking at smaller resolution set ups even wider than that.
Unfortunately there won't be any changes for a couple of weeks as we've used our 'changes budget and time' up for the moment. And as a little point someone did make the point above - although the site non-profit driven is part of this, changes and development cost money, and it is the main site that pays the bills, one of the reasons i wanted the Chat Forum more integrated.
Feedback on the main site changes would be great too
martinI have discussed shrinking the LHS menu and we reckon we can grab 1cm or so back plus will be filling in the pink space with something. Though it will be a while.
Cool !!! 8) 8) 8)
1 cm may be enough for those of us at home with a clapped out 14 inch monitor (currently me!). My main concern at the moment is that post-interface I have to use the "Horizontal" scroll bar on some screens just to be able 2 read posts...this takes up valuable time.At work, 16", no problem.
Will post some feedback on the main site when I have time...a bit too busy at work just at the moment :(This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Hi Sheel
Thanks for removing the link.
Sorry to labour the point folks but until webby sorts out this glitch, anyone posting a long url will cause a similar problem.Do It To Them Before They Do It To You
