One thing to note - the chat forum is now stretchable.

Judi,
I think Martin means that if you make your browser window larger or smaller, the forum content will reflow to fit in the new size of window, rather than getting chopped off or leave a blank margin on the right.
Therefore, whatever size your screen, more of it should be taken up with useful content.
I think the changes look really good Martin - although as mentioned, the navigation panel on the left of the site is far too wide. About 60% of that width would be ideal IMHO - and bumping it fully to the left margin would be useful.
Really nice to see the site evolving and you making such good use of feedback!

Could`nt the menu bar that`s currently on the left and taking up far too much room be moved to the very top of the page horizontally.
At present as soon as you scroll down a couple of posts it can`t be seen anyway and you`re left with a big blank space and all the posts are squeezed to the right.0 -
I like the return of the "Quick Jump" menu!
Having the chat windows resizable/stretchable is cool too. The only thing that I find erksome is the menu of buttons on the left. Mainly because the buttons still don't appear for users of Norton Firewall. (I have fixed this for https://www.moneysavingexpert.com url but not for forum.moneysavingexpert.com).
If you make the left margin smaller, and make the buttons smaller it should fix this problem. Is this possible?0 -
Have to say that I really don't like the margins along the top and side. Its seems to have left everything really cramped.
I can however understand why you have put these on: as the forum means that people aren't viewing the other things on the site.
Just a thought...0 -
whats happened with my screen it seem half the size!
yes i agree if the chat forum stays the same we will get use to it, however i feel its a step backwards,
the widesreeen format was far more easier on the eye and easier to scroll.
also i rarely look at the LHS menu, it seems ineffecient, it takes up so much room.
also in terms of numbers, say for eg for every 100visits to the site i doubt more than 20% look at the LHS menus,
so it seems to cramped for the MAJORITY of those on this site who are regulars at the expensne of a few.
just my initial opinion0 -

THE MORE I NO THE LESS I UNDERSTAND0 -
All those feeling scrunched - make sure you are looking at a full page version of the site - not just in a box. The site now stretches so the bigger the window the better. For everyone who now has 'less space' someone has 'more space'.
I have discussed shrinking the LHS menu and we reckon we can grab 1cm or so back plus will be filling in the pink space with something. Though it will be a while. As you will note there's an ad for a web developer - once someone is onboard fulltime these things will be easier. For the moment all stays as is.
All the new changes are to aid navigation - the biggest criticism of the site. And while the regulars can do it already, most people stuggle. The LHS menu and the new 'green bar' on the front page should i hope make a big difference.
I promise i am listening to all feedback. However there is simply no flexibility to make quick changes - we had one day with a developer to implement predesigned changes - and we grabbed them. The next tranch will probably be in 6 to 8 weeks. But hopefully soon we'll have an in-house developer so changes can be more fluid and other things we all want can be done. Again though these things don't come cheap, and one of the reasons for the LHS is so people know the main site is there - and that means they may use the 'special note' links some more - which is what pays for everything. A bit of a roundabout really.
