I think the new navigation bar is good, but as for the changes to the chat forum, I really really don't like them.

I hate the fact that everything feels squashed up and I find it really irritating that I keep having to move bottom scroll bar to the right to read the whole post.

I wonder if I'll feel any better about it after a few days :-/

Hi Everyone. Sorry, but have to agree with the majority, its HORRIBLE all squashed to one side, your bound to get a squint in yer eye looking to the right all the time - well mostly. :o

Pat - still not too well, but had to respond to this Martin. :P

The sidepanel is no different than a lot sites. Apart from being filled in with more content I think it really needs to be a different colour and a little thinner like this site.

Liked it much better the way it was but I agree that the forums always felt seperate from the main site - which of course pays the bills :)
  • As far as I'm concerned the site is looking good but with room for improvement. Martin has said things are still changing, lets wait and see before we gripe too much. Like most new things in life, you'll get used to it and grow to love it (again). :)

Martin....... thanks for taking on board my comments about "Websense" filtering the chat forums in my work place. Clicked it tonight out of curiosity. "Bingo", everything back in it's full glory. Hope it doesn't start to learn about the changes. :)

    Great work, keep it coming!

    Regards, Neil.

P.S. Finally saw you on tv the other week. Chatty little chap aren't you. With some of those expressions I'd swear your taking acting lessons! ;D

I think it might be annoying for people with a smaller screen size. I have a 17" screen and its fine but anything smaller and i think you might have to use the bottom bar to scroll right.

I have a 19" monitor, i dont have to scroll to see the whole of the post but i am getting used to the menu bar at the left hand side, but think it ought to be narrower and maybe more use can be made of the blank space under it rather than the squashed up writing at the top of the posts. I still have to really look for the bit that tells me how many messages i have.

I actually had a browse through the rest of the site last night through the links on the left - so with a few tweaks, i think it will be great.

Ok folks. It's good feedback. I get the point about making it more narrow and will try and have a look at that. I think this is a getting used to thing.

One thing to note - the chat forum is now stretchable. That actually means if you make sure you're fulling a full page those on bigger monitors will find the actual chat bit much much wider. Those looking at smaller resolution set ups even wider than that.

Unfortunately there won't be any changes for a couple of weeks as we've used our 'changes budget and time' up for the moment. And as a little point someone did make the point above - although the site non-profit driven is part of this, changes and development cost money, and it is the main site that pays the bills, one of the reasons i wanted the Chat Forum more integrated.

Feedback on the main site changes would be great too

The blank section on the left does leave plenty of room for adverts. There is also a small blank section on the right.
It might be worth invoking a non performance clause somewhere in the scheme of things for the culprit who did this. Don't buy them an icecream next time.
