why do some customers throw money at till assistants ?

I'd call that good customer service:) Some people might not want to touch hands for cultural reasons (or they are germ phobic) so if they place it on the counter, so do you. If they throw it down - then you mentally call them an arrogant gitgirl-in-a-hat wrote: »When I worked in retail if a customer out money on the counter rather than in my outstretched hand their change was placed on the counter instead of in their outstretched hand.
I need to think of something new here...0 -

Who knows where your mucky hand has been, if they don't want to touch your hand it's hardly a hardship to have to pick it up.
Lots of assistants put the change on top of the receipt so they have no need to touch your hand.
I've heard that some religions don't like change in or out of the hand they wipe their harris with.
Some people are annoying who open out their hand or deposit all their change on the counter for the assistant to pick through. Also people who pick up their change, one coin at a time rather than a full sweep.0 -
So I'm an annoying customer if I:
Pay for a small amount with a large note
Pay for my item with a large amount of exact change
Put the money down instead of handing it directly
Hold my hand out for change
Pay with a large note too close to opening times.
Well that gives me a lot of faith that I'm valued as a customer...Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
"valued as a customer"? Get over yourself.I'm not bad at golf, I just get better value for money when I take more shots!0

Its very rude. HOWEVER, when I hand money to a till assistant, and wait with my hand out for change, why do they simply drop it on the counter. They are the party who is being paid in the buy/sell transaction so I consider this to be even more rude that what some buyers do.
In a similar vein, my local Spar shop ALWAYS scan the items and put them down on their side of the counter. I then pay, they say thanks and thats it. I always have to reach over and pick them up myself, they also never offer a carrier bag. Its happened that many times that I have to always comment now, they dont like that

Wow, really hope I never end up being served by you. What an attitude!
Do you not value customers? I always did. They can be irritating, annoying and as stinky as they want but I was always happy to do my job regardless.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. At morrisons the other day, the woman didn't tell me how much, and when I paid she just handed me the money and ignored me. I'm always a friendly person so was a bit taken aback considering I had said hello and smiled etc. So I said a loud and cheerful 'thank you goodbye' as I left.
Manners don't cost a thing.
One more reason to not shop at morrisons, I hate that place anyway.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

Thankfully I've left retail, but I valued people who were decent, be they customers or colleagues. Now I'm a customer, I value friendly helpful shop assistants equally as much. I certainly don't go in expecting them to prostrate themselves before me, expressing deep gratitude for the pint of milk I'm buying. Nor do I hold them to a higher standard of manners than I hold myself or other customers to, that would be an appalling attitude.I'm not bad at golf, I just get better value for money when I take more shots!0 -
As a customer I always remember the shops where the staff do actually have manners and beyond. At a Saisnburys near me one lady always made a point of looking at the card if that was how the customer paid and addressing them by name, and she was always ready with a smile and seemed genuinely friendly.
And the other thing that always gets brownie points with me is when they give me notes and coins separately in my change. If they're all just shoved at me I always end up taking longer as I can't fit the notes into my purse without separating them from coins. It's only little things but it makes a world of difference0
