Let's stop moaning about the Olympics and get behind Team GB.
Rather not, thank you.
Success only comes before work in the dictionary, these athletes have dedicated their lives to being the best.
And they get rewarded, watch how many of them will be paid to be on adverts and God knows what for the next 12 months or so, then there's the video games, endorsing this and that etc.
P.S Especially good luck for all of the brave Para Olympians.
Disabled athletes are not brave.
Soldiers in Afghanistan are brave. Please don't compare.

I couldn't care less for the games. Complete waste of money and rather quite obscene.0 -

Well I have to agree with you in respect of the money spent - a poor investment in my opinion, but lets just wait and see what the legacy is.
Unfortunately a potential sporting spectacular is tainted by the corporations who invest in the games insisting on a return for their contributions that result in over inflated admission prices that makes attending the games somewhat prohibitive for many people.
On another note - the Korean flag fiasco in Glasgow was well documented, however, the total c0ck up by LOCOG's 'organisation' at St James' park today was conspicuous by its absence on the national news tonight.
Hopefully two disasters before the opening ceremony is not an omen.0 -
Living 600 miles from the Olympic hub I doubt I will see any legacy benefit from this London spendfest.dickydonkin wrote: »Well I have to agree with you in respect of the money spent - a poor investment in my opinion, but lets just wait and see what the legacy is.0 -

I have got tickets for tomorrow, but in a way I wish I hadn't bothered.
Every other day or so, we get more diktats from them - no liquids, no flags, no sun tan cream, no smiling, don't drive, turn up 3 hours early and expect queues. No food, however you can buy at rip-off prices healthy McDonalds and Coke.
LOCOG have turned what should have been a really good and memorable family day out into a total chore with the security and "protecting their sponsors" which to be honest I just want to get out of the way now, without having my wallet totally emptied.
I know this is very selfish thing to say, given the large number of people who did not get tickets. The only reason I am going is I want my kids to experience the Olympics first hand.0 -
Well I can be quite the miser about the Olympics. A collection of fringe sports that comparatively very few people care about except for a few weeks every four years when supposedly they become part of the greatest spectacle in the world. Even worse considering that some of those medals are awarded in what are effectively purely subjective "contests". And now, because the Great Britain team happened to perform above expectations in Beijing and because London is hosting it will be rammed down our throats more than usual. I went on a particular news website earlier and the biggest headline was an interactive map of where the torch was. There are probably slightly more important matters.
But really, my biggest issue with the Olympics is the fact that it seems more about "Team" GB, or "Team" USA etc. than it is about individual accomplishment. The IOC may print a medal table but it also points out that there is no "official" ranking based on nationality because the original mantra of the Olympic Games was to celebrate the greatest athletes in the world, whatever their background. It is only at some point down the line that it was perverted into a nationalist tinkling contest.
However, all that said, it is easy enough to avoid and some people seem to like it so they will have fun. There's sports and other forms of entertainment that I enjoy that others hate, so each to their own and for everyone who is looking forward to the Olympics, I hope they're a good games for you.0 -

Which !!!! up? The ridiculous queues causing some spectators to miss the kick-off despite being hours early or the border agents arresting security guards suspected of being illegal immigrants?
Expect the usual political answers:
It must never happen again - until the next time
Lessons will be learned - and immediately forgotten
Fortunately you can still go here for a good drink, safe in the knowledge that it is not associated with LOCOG

I'd be behind them more if it wasn't for the fact people think they are competing for England.
It's driving me mad. On the tom Daley program 3 separate people spoke about the athletes competing For England.
It's always the same, until chris hoy wins a medal and ooooh it's all about BRITAIN then eh
Spot on! Last time the first gold was won by Nicole Cooke - Welsh - and Mark Cavendish is likely to win the first gold this time - a Manxman.
BBC interviewer should correct these arrogant[STRIKE] little [/STRIKE] big-headed Englanders .Member #14 of SKI-ers club
